Dunno if I spelt Luc Besson properly, but anyway...

I watched Taxi last night, in all its subtitled glory. What a cool film! Anyone seen it?

At first I found the subtitles slightly annoying because they detracted from my time looking at the screen (and the crazy driving antics!) but after a while I started to find it quite refreshing - It made a change to hear the actors speaking French rather than American English, as is usually the case.

I can see me getting into some cool foreign films now. Anybody got any suggestions?

Yes - Taxi 2! Not as good as the original, but still a very fun film. I think there's loads of threads like this as people discover it! Brilliant film.

Cheers,
Rob.

I discovered it a short while back as well, £7.99 for Taxi 1 and 2 from www.play.com

Try Amilie, it's quite a quirky little French film which had critical acclaim a few years back, quite good if a little "chick-flick"y (I liked it though).

You also have the arty Asian films such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (only watchable in Mandarin with English Subtitles IMO), Hero and the House of Long Knives (just out at the Cinema - titled something like that).

Yep, I've known about Taxi for years but only go round to buying and watching it a few weeks ago - top film. sad I know but I found the old schoolboy French taking over from the reading towards the end.

Sorry that this is a bit off topice but I know there was a film, Michael Villante?, being made by the same director, part of the plot of which was based around Le Mans in 2002(or03). has anyone heard hide or hair of this and -where can you get a copy in the uk, assuming it has been dubbed or titled?

Amelie sounds good - I've been hearing quite a bit about it. I love the theme tune by Tierrson ("la valse d'amelie", I think).

As for Crouching Tiger... I have that, but I'm afraid I just don't get it!

Highly recommend:

OldBoy (Korean horror/thriller/incredibly thought provoking but very nasty)

Zatoichi (fantastic Japanese film about a blind swordsman from Takeshi Kitano, good one for Kill Bill fans)

The Infernal Affairs Trilogy (Brilliant Hong Kong Action Crime/Cop movies, superbly made and great fun)

A Tale of two Sisters (HK horror movie)

Hero & House of Flying Daggers (Zhang Yimou's stunning martial arts movies, I still prefer Hero but flying daggers is still a cracking movie)

many many more just can't think of them,
Andy

Indian:
Bombay - touching and very heart wrenching (especially if you've got kids)

Lagan: About Tax and Cricket - great film (if a little long)

Dil Chahta Hai: very modern indian movie - would change your perspective of what India is like now

Michel Vaillant. From LM2002.

Luc is quite a petrolhead and normally found at all F1 meetings.

And dont forget Taxi 3 either.
