Fuel Pump question - Early pre-serp

Hi No doubt this has been asked may times before but here goes anyway.
The fuel pump on my 1993 4 litre Chimaera runs continuously when the ignition is switched on - it doesn't prime and stop before turning the engine over ?
I've replaced the relays and its still the same. What actually controls the prime function on the pump?
The wiring to the pump is in excellent condition - body off chassis re-build by previous owner means pretty much everything was replaced or re-furbished.
The car runs fine although runs a little rich on idle.
It never used to worry me but now I'm listening for it and also the safety issue
Any ideas please ?

Its controlled by a relay thats switched from the ECU- you should hear it in the passenger foot well if you turn on the ignition but dont start- you get a click as the relay closes- then about 3 second later you should here another click as it drops open. If the pump is still running Id suspect foul play and this relay may have been bypassed.

You can generally tell if wiring has been modified as its very rarely done neatly.

the factory wiring isn't exactly the tidiest !!

Im not really sure what they were thinking when they left the ecu and relays just hanging like that.

Something along the lines of get a Land Rover 14CUX loom and splice it in there as is.
