After browsing through hundreds of ads for Chimaeras, I wondered what the difference was between full and half hide. The pictures of the interiors all looked pretty much the same. I assume all Chimaeras come with leather seats but what makes up the full hide bit?

Mine has half hide and the seats are leather but the dash and centre console are vinyl. I assume with full leather the dash and centre console are leather too.

I think the easiest way to tell is full hide cars have leather door trims where a 1/2 hide car is carpet.

Raceboy sadly not quite true as with many TVR options my last chimaera had full hide and carpet door things and my new one has I think half hide and leather door cards, I think the esayest way to tell is usually the difference between the seat fronts and the dash if there is very little difference (i.e. grain of material) full hide and if lots of difference half hide.
Having said that I could be wrong as some one will probably post next !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As with all TVR specs, it really boils down to if Dave built it or Barry, or if it was a Monday or a Friday
Once again I prove I actually know nothing, as told frequently by racegirl

I dont have any hide at all, but the seat facings are still leather.

No hide - Leather seat facings
Half hide - Leather seats
Full hide - Leather everything

Perhaps??

Matt.

My understanding:
No hide: leather seats
Half-hide: leather seats + other bit (coudl be door trim, trnasmission tunnel or dash-board
Full-hide: the lot!

Okay, I can aldready hear you saying "Why is it not called Third-hide and Two-third-hide?"

What about 3/4 hide - half hide plus leather dash top!

Leather - seats in REAL leather, dash, tunnel etc in fake vinyl
Full Leather - seats and dash, tunnel etc in real leather. Also door inserts in leather

Then again, this has changed over the years.... Mines got leather, so the vinyl dash top etc. Look OK, but you just know it isnt real leather. If you compare the older Chimaera with the new Tamora with leather (not full) you can really notice the improvement with the new Bison hide stuff - looks & feels like leather.... much improved.

Cheers,

Paul

Isnt this Bison stuff really badly wearing and causing misting problems though?

Matt.

My 4p-worth:

Half hide = seat facings only (inc front of headrest). The rest is 'ambla moquette', which means vinyl.

Full hide = everything that was vinyl in the above example is now leather, inlcuding the dash and the door surrounds. The middle section of the doors is still carpet though - if you've seen leather door panels perhaps it was retro-fitted or a special order.

There's a big jump between the two specs. Haven't heard of 'no leather' though, and can a 'no leather' car have leather seat facings?!

my 1/2 hide has vinyl door cards, not carpet ... just to add to the confusion.

p.s. someone on the Cerbera forum replaced all the leather by hand ... photos are pretty damned impressive

not to be confused with our "half-leather" volvo.... the seats are half leather and half cloth (and the rest is entirely plastic

Sorry, trying to do work as well as post on Pistonheads leads to confusion.... But I think that you got what I meant though.

You can tell that it is fake leather AKA Vinyl...

Cheers,

Paul

Well I am glad that's all clear then !!!!!!

I think race boy is probably correct it depends if barry or dave made it and whether it was monday or friday and if they had got their oats the night before as with many other parts of the cars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having vinyl (or leather) door cards was an option at build time, although it was not in the "official" list of options

My Griff is full hide - ok its not a Chimaera - anyway, full hide in my case means everything that could be covered in leather is - including seat backs, dashboard, windscreen surround, door inserts, pockets and tops, transmission tunnel, roof hoop - the full monty.

It doesn't seemt o collect the dirt that the vinyl can as the grain in the leather is not as deep. That said you need to look after the leather more...

You can tell by smell. Although personally I would'nt go round sniffing car seats especially TVR ones!!
