To find a slightly ratty but useable 964 coupe for less than £25k now? I know that you should buy the best, that they rust, that they can be a minefield etc.
But it seems that cars like this just don't exist. I see a grey C4 coupe with black Cup wheels bombing up Blackfriars Road in London sometimes - and its just about perfect in my eyes.

What does slightly ratty mean? A car that looks a bit rough with a few rust bubbles maybe?
Its pretty much all about rust on these cars, and something that looks a little rough can turn into a proper full on restoration running deep into 5 figures. And that wont begin with a 1.
I know a few guys in the resto business and some of the stories they tell are frightening. And sometimes its the shiny ones that can be the worst! Bodged up cheap repairs then detailed highly to give the impression of a mint car.
You need to go in with your eyes very open on the older stuff.

I'm sure if you keep searching you'll find a rusty or hyper-mileage car, certainly easier if you'll settle for a tiptronic. The 964 (along with all aircooled 911's) is enjoying a high at present. I don't ever see them dropping back to where they started, but wouldn't be surprised to see more cars appear as interest cools if prices wobble.
Almost better to search out and enjoy the more affordable Porsche short-term.

You are making a lot of assumptions there! You cant possibly know that any of those things will happen, let alone all of them!using history, common sense, and basic economic theory this is what I come up with, time will tell...
I recently bought a 964 Cab C2 Manual (came up, was cheap, so I went for it). I am totally smitten by what the 964 offers having driven 60, 70s and 80s 911s. And I would like a Coupe I can mess about with, not one which is too nice to change. Thats the motivation for looking for one which may need work. Anything 30k plus is going to be something I wouldnt feel happy changing.
