I really need to do something with my mums savings but all of the rates are terrible it seems?

Could anyone give me a suggestion on what to do to make the most for her?

Or should I just tell her to be a hero and buy an E46 CSL?

Cheers

What you do with it is the tactic, the bottom up approach. That might be completely at odds with the top down consideration.. what your mum's strategy (her needs, wishes and feelings etc) might be.

Go to the MoneySavingExpert forum.

You'll find many, many, many, many threads on this topic.

Generally, if you want to get the best short term rates you'll need to deposit money into the account each month. This can be a transfer in and then straight back out again, i.e. keep the balance at say £5k to get the best rate and transfer in and out on the same day the required amount.
