It would seem that anyone trying to contact another forum member regarding any form or business or transaction will be met with an error message. This is bang out of order. If one member wants to use the services of another, for whatever reason, be it sill plates, detailing, painting. they will be not allowed to send the email to the party they want to.

Where is the sense or gain in that? I get lots of work through this forum and i imagine others do too, so i really don't want this to hinder people using mine or anyone else's services. How does this help an online community? Do the mods want to bring in some kind of system where by they charge for the privilege of receiving an email for a quote or advice?

Ive just tested it out to another forum member. The first message was rude and not family friendly, but it got sent, but the other mentioned what i do and it didn't. This is not good!

Don't they still let you promote a personal web site on your profile? If its true it is a bit bonkers they won't let you message as it actually helps reduce the more public touting for business.

Surely not? You're saying if I try to email you saying I can help you build a website, it will be blocked?

Are you suggesting that your personal messages which are sent using the messaging service on here are being read by moderators?

Surely that's an invasion of privacy regardless of the content?

Not sure how people think data is stored, but I bet ten English pounds every PM is stored in the DB in plain text and could have been read from day 1.

I understand your concern, and if they are moderating them, it's not good.

For that to be the case, they would have to have someone sat there reading all the messages and it reports the error message a bit too quick. Not to say that they not read them and keep an eye on the messages certain members get. Its more likely key words. its been tested out a few times this evening.

If its about commercial gain, then where do they draw the line? If someone was asking another member about a pub to meet at, how is that different to asking someone about a service they provide or advice on something they know about, no matter the trade. At the end of the day, money will be changing hands at some point, so a pub must fall into the same category as a members business?! I think the rules are too general and need to be cleared up. Failing that, i can see the website going down hill, especially if people feel they are being watched!

Moderators have no control or access over PMs in any shape or form so please take that bee out of your bonnet.

I'm sure one of the technical people at Haymarket can answer though.

Theres no need to be like that. As i said, i don't know how it works, but you have to see it from the point of view of us lot. If something gets posted up or closed etc, its the mods and you guys are the face of what goes on behind the scenes, so you have to understand that you will take the blame in some way, rightly or wrongly.

I'm fed up with some people who think moderators run the site, do classifieds, code everything. All we do is moderate posts on the forums, nothing else and suggesting we in some way are going to be charging for sending business emails is plainly stupid.

Pm's like much of the site are just broken at the moment and have been for a while now.

It seems completely random if they work or not.

PH don't seem to have enough time to keep the website running properly let alone actively moderate and read our pm's.

The non family friendly email was sent by me to another member, all you get back from haymarket is an error message, which isn't random.

I was nearly trying to see what got through and what didn't, as i was told by another member about the change and wanted to test it myself.

Are you sure it's not just down to the fact the messaging system is broken at the moment? Receiving an error message back that your email didn't get sent does not mean that people are sat at Haymarket screening your emails.

Im not sure, but time will tell. It was brought to my attention, so i tried it out and the ones that didn't mention detailing got through, the others didn't.

Im quite prepared to pay a sub, but some warning would be nice.
