Dear all,

I intend to change all the carpets which are a little tatty because of water leakage.

It seems that the water ingress comes from the rear arch before falling on the seat belt.

What do you recommend in order to waterproof the car ?

Is it better to buy a set of pre-cut carpets or not ?

To help the trimmer, I've also the following questions

1)How to remove the carpeted pannel of the door panel ?
2)How to remove the transmission tunnel ?
3)How to remove the rear section of the roof ?
4) which additional material have I to order (seals, velcro, foam...)for a good job.

Your advise would be precious since I am a newcomer.

I thank you in advance.

i can only help you on point 1 - and that comes from experience. you have to remove the leather surround infront of the carpet first - it is a pig of a job. remove speaker first, stick your hand in the hole to find the nuts and remove them. see steve heaths book with the chapter on widows and trim. also search ph for "window winder broken" and you will find plenty of links on how to get the door panel off. most of the rest of the carpet is just glued down i think(transmission tunnel/boot/rear sides etc)

Just a thought, but it might be worth checking the little rubber ears that cover the gap between the soft top and the body at the top of the door column (above the door catch). I'm not sure if this was a later mod but when I bought mine there were no ears. They sit over the gap and prevent water coming in. Until I had it fixed I seemed to have exactly the same water ingress as you.

Can take a digital pic for you if you like.

Mine was re-carpetted under warranty by Hawthorns who sub-contracted it to a little old man who was a perfectionist (that's what they told me). Very impressed with the results but obviously have no idea how much it cost them.

Anyway, depending on price it might be worth investigating this option as if your results look anything less than professional then it could affect your resale value. Just a thought anyway.

'It seems that the water ingress comes from the rear arch before falling on the seat belt.'

Also check that when the door is closed, the rear of the glass is in contact with the vertical rubber strip on the targa section. If the seal above the window tucks under the glass instead of going over it, it often leaves a gap at the rear edge as described. Perhaps you should find and fix the leak before you get the interior done - it would a pity to spoil the new one as well!
