D70 NEF format

I use a D70 and want to use the largest format for graphic use of the data. I guess the raw-format (I would say TIFF) is in NEF and I can't open it in (classic OS9.2) Macs Photoshop. Haven't tried on OSX . . . What's the solution guys?

Depending on the version of photoshop, you need to download the plugin to get it working...

edit to add It's the "camera RAW" plugin you need, which seems to only be available for CS and Elements.

I think your right that Photoshop CS is the only one that can manage raw files, but if you use Nikon Capture editor, you can then export them to photoshop from there as tiff's, jpeg's etc.

I "upgraded" to elements so that I could use the RAW plugin but it's so crap that I've uninstalled it and am shooting in JPEG mode until my copy of CS arrives.

You cannot open the D70 .NEF images in Elements 2. Not sure about Elements 3.

if you have the full photoshop CS you can download an upgarde from Adobe which will allow you to open the NEF files.

You can of course always shhot in jpeg large format in camera and then save the file in PS in .TIFF format but you will have relied in the jpeg compression in camera. Whether this bothers you or not depends upon how big you print. Up to A4 sized prints I have found shooting jpeg large to give great results with the D70.

Elememts three can open NEF files but it's a huge step back in functionality after full photoshop.

Depends how much you use in PS but I couldn't live with elements.
