Removing the vocals, creating an instrumental of sorts?

How do I go about making a song with vocals into an instrumental? For my/ our wedding, we like the idea of a few songs as instruments. These songs can be found online on say Youtube, but not itunes or similar. I'm assuming that they have been edited to achieve an instrumental sans vocals (?).
Have a look at what's on offer on Karaoke-version.com look at the custom tracks where you can delete whatever you little heart desires.
We use some of their track as backing for our 3 piece outfit, we have lap steel, acoustic rhythm and I play guitar or bass depending on mood of the track.
So we drop the lead & harmony vocals and either lead guitar or bass depending on what I prefer to play.
They also have heaps of Shadows and the likes so there should be something there to suit your needs

Look on Beatport - they might have released an instrumental?
If you're looking to remove the vocals from a CD or whatever its very hard to do. Always get leakage and a flat mid. Best bet is to find the parts (um, I forget what they're called) ie the different tracks (vocals, guitar, drums etc) and then just play the ones you want.

That sites a bit of alright isn't it. No idea but they are quality covers, I'm guessing session players and if enough people request a particular song that's not on the current list they knock it out.Not all songs are there, but I've got a start. Who submits them?
We probably have around 60 of their tracks and in conjunction with a drum sequencer I do the backing so for our originals in Reaper

You can try this.... Edit the song in audacity and invert either the left of right track. Sometimes more successful than others.If you go into YouTube and type in the title of the song you want, followed by the word 'karaoke' something useable often comes up.
('Instrumental' sometimes works well also.)

There are many bits of software, some free, which will download just the audio from a YT video and store it as a WAV file or mp3.
Beware though, most songs do not make good instrumentals; the melody is not strong enough on its own. Remove the words and you also run the risk of removing the interest.
