Upgrading exhaust on a Gen 1 Cayman S
Discussion
Hi,
My exhaust tips are really corroded and I was planning on replacing them. But now I've had the car for a couple of months, I've decided I'd also like it a bit louder.
So what exhausts are usually recommended here? I don't want to spend a lot of money, so it will probably be a cat back system. I don't want it really loud, just a bit louder than it is at the moment. The Porsche is my daily driver and my neighbours already get annoyed at the TVR and the Caterham, so I want something that's pretty quiet at startup when I leave for work in the morning, but sounds louder at higher revs (if that's possible!)
Finally, are they easy to fit DIY?
Many thanks,
Dan

Sir, google the words 'cayman carnewal GT Catback exhaust reviews'. Once you've read how great the exhaust, go onto Gert Carnewals website and marvel at how cheap it is. He can send it over for you to fit (exchange) or you can journey over to belgium as many like myself have done, and he will fit it for you free of charge. Job jobbed as they say!

Thanks. I did search and I saw on PH some users recommending him, but the website they had linked to didn't work so I assumed he was out of business. However, I've just searched on Google and found his new website.
Looks interesting.
Just had a read through on the website.
Mine is pretty rusty, will an exchange be ok? Will I receive an equally rusty exhaust?! Also, my tail pipes look terrible, so I'd like to change them for a new set of twin pipes, but Carnewal want €410 for that. Seems very expensive for a tail pipe!

Gert will swap the exhaust for one with similar age, miles and condition. The sound is great he spent some time getting the balance just right, it also has a great reputation for NOT droning which many of the aftermarket pipes do. In regards the exhaust tips i didn't go for them on mine but would have no hesitation in buying a set from Gert, his stock is quality including oem porsche parts, many of the cheaper shiny tips you see are made in china. The carnewal is a VERY popular mod for these cars for a reason, he even now distributes the design in the US. Mine is pretty rusty, will an exchange be ok? Will I receive an equally rusty exhaust?! I have just got myself a new cat back system from Milltek http://www.millteksport.com/exhaust.products.cfm?v... Slightly louder than standard, but still quiet enough for trackdays.

Ask him if he has some second hand but almost new sets, if yours are really rusty he probably won't take them in exchange anyway. Also budget for some new clamps and bolts if your car is rusty (he uses genuine Porsche parts and charges VERY cheap labour rates).Mine is pretty rusty, will an exchange be ok? The tips are just Porsche parts and therefore Porsche prices... might wanna check out ebay if you don't want to pay for brand new ones.

With regards to the Milltek posted above, there seem to be two options. One with rear cats and one without. Are the rear cats a legal requirement? Will it still pass an MOT without them?

My clamps are new. I asked the dealer I bought the car from to change them. The exhaust is usable, just looks a bit scabby!

Mine is without the 2 rear cats and should pas emissions easily, lambda sensors are before rear cats, so no problem with the ecu either. With regards to the Milltek posted above, there seem to be two options.
