"As far as the maximum torque is concerned [it] is available from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm
....
There’s now so much low-end power that there’s now no real need to tap the 2,300 rpm that lie between the torque summit and the performance peak."
....and that ladies and gents is the problem. I was holding out hope that Porsche may have deliberately engineered in a NA shaped torque delivery
Downsize and go turbo for emissions if you have to, but for pity's sake at least keep the power delivery the same. Difference between a Carrera and Turbo used to not just be about power, but how it was delivered. Now a Carrera is just going to feel like a slow Turbo I imagine

3.0L fixed vane twin turbo flat six
40 kg heavier than the old engine
Carrera runs at 0.9 bar, Carrera S at 1.1 bar (I hope they have put a lot of effort into the ecu encryption...)
RWS standard
Lift standard
e-LSD in C2S
7:34 around the nordschleife in the C2S

Just feels like they are pushing fans of a naturally aspirated engines into the periphery of the product plan, by limiting them to GT models. And this is further proof, if it was needed, that the future of the 'standard' 911s is closer to a GT brief than a sports car one.
It's a shame, and hardly seems worth it for a 10% gain in fuel economy, but what do I know. Personally think the slats and vents make it look fussier and uglier than the pre-facelift car as well, though I am not a great fan of either.

that looks lovely and really a thing of beauty with clean lines. just love the way that all comes together.
I knew the NA purists would be up in arms but have you driven one? nope. well why don't you save your judgement until you have driven one.
Porsche has to move with the times and not only around styling....its efficiency as well as appealing to many. people want a sports road car to be fast, great to drive, sometimes efficient if crossing Europe, not crashing over every bump and to be able to reach your destination feeling like it was a great but not totally exhausting drive.
that is what Porsche do so well and they have to do this to keep the brand alive.
I drove a really nice 991 Carrera the other day and I was convincing myself I would hate PDK and all the gubbings....as a road car it was just sublime and so much nicer to drive than my gt3 mk2 996. nowhere near as raw but still fun and a lot better in the wet too. this is the UK people not ruddy California. we get a lot of rain!
thing with turbos is I bet a lot of people get the normal Carrera and then get a tuner to breathe on it. if its just actuator pressure in the S that has gone up but same turbos and intercoolers then it will be easy to get the normal Carrera up to the S figures and save yourself a fortune.
can't wait to see them on the road and get out in one for a good blast.

Looks ok, bit cleaner looking than before, I like the DRLs and the Macan style 3D rear lights.
There are still too many badges over the back end, its nearly as bad as a Mini C O U N T R Y M A N or P A C E M A N. Debadge option, tick.
The slats on the rear (is it a pop up spoiler?) are going the wrong way, they've always been horizontal across the width of the car.

Hands up though, I am not going to afford one anytime soon, and I'm one of those who think a 930 or 964 is a proper 911, 993 at a push, nothing after that.

Anyone else think the 911's starting to look too long/stretched?
Very GT car, not so much a sportscar.
As long as they can keep improving both everyday usability and track performance, which is no easy task, they're on the right path for the 911 IMO.
7:34 on Pzeros is quite impressive compared to the much lighter GT4 on Cup2s.
Purists may not be happy about the weight, feedback, agility but they can always buy a new GTx, used model, a Cayman/Boxster or the soon to be announced mid-engined "Ferrari Fighter".
I never thought i'd say this but I can't wait for the 911 to go hybrid.
Does anybody know the weight of this car? +40kg from the engine and ancillaries, larger tires, front lift, rear wheel steering, it's going to add up.
Next gen they'll need a very radical redesign with carbon composites to get the weight down for a battery pack.

The reason we're here is legislation. If the mainstream 991.2 allows the special 991.2's to remain NA that won't be a bad thing. Although the majority on here want 'manual, Na engines' the majority don't.I can't see myself in a newer 911 (but never say never), due mainly to size, they seem so bloated.

I think Porsche will have a the drive a lot closer to the NA car and response. the 991 turbo picks up like an NA car and you hardly notice the difference the one I went out in. very impressive. I know the 991.2 won't have the same set up but with a 3 litre 6 pot then its not like its a 2 litre 4 pot with loads of lag.
1 more Litre and 2 more bangs means you can do a great job of making the engine feel special and hardly blown at all.
its not like its going to be a 930 turbo or anything!
