New(ish) family hack Audi A6 Avant

Hello,

We've had a 2000 A6 Avant 2.4 V6 for a few years now but last week we started losing reverse, sadly this means the car has to go as it was not worth repairing (for us anyway), it's a real shame though as the car has been in the family since new being owned by my farther in law and then me and apart from the reverse issue is a great car that's performed faultlessly...

On the bright side though we get to buy a new car

After a bit of googling I found another A6 with great spec and what seemed at a good price but typically it was nearly 300 miles away in Blackburn still not to be put off a deal was done over the phone and one plane and two trains later I was there. On first inspection the car looked great but there are a few things to do, the main one being the O/S/R window doesn't open, but I'm hoping that's just a motor or regulator so nothing too bad, body wise the car is very straight with not a dent on it but there are many scratches and swirls so I'm hoping a goor cut and polish will address most of those.

I negotiated a years tax and a years warranty to be thrown in, so quite happy with that.

So the car...

It's an A6 Avant, S Line Quattro, 2.8 V6 FSi and has a great spec including:

Xenon headlights
LED Rear lights
DVD Sat nav
Reversing camera
Adaptive cruise control (how fecking good is this)
Tyre pressure monitoring
Communications pack with iPhone connection
Auto lights and wipers
Folding mirrors
Auto dipping mirrors
Electric memory seats

The drive back was faultless it goes like stink and it just ate the miles up, so far so good....

Lovely colour and good engine choice! Generally I prefer silver wheels on cars, but they'd look perfect a bit darker I think.

Thanks for the complements, absolutely loving it, and finding loads of of neat features all the time, tonight has turned up:

Puddle lighting from mirrors
Seats and mirrors move to position depending on which key opens the car
Sunglasses holder by interior light
And I can change the range between me and the car in front which will stop all the gits filling the gap on the motorway and making the car slow down (first world problem right there)

Hopefully gonna get time to mop the car over the next couple of weeks and have a look at the door then next on the list of things to do will be a set of Audi mats, change the old style iPod connector to the lighting one, and get a copy of the latest sat nav disc. I was hoping to swap the exhaust tips too for some shiny chrome ones but it looks like they are part of the exhaust

Finally got to give her a good going over at the weekend, didn't come up too bad for an afternoons work

I'd be interested to hear how your newer C6 Avant compares to your older C5 variant.

I have an Allroad which is the wide-body version (same as the RS6) and I love the look of it with the flared arches etc.
However, I'm sure the newer one is a real step in refinement/performance and build quality?

A friend of mine who is an Audi enthusiast tells me the older ones were actually better built. Not sure if this is true mind.

Also how do they compare for load carrying capabilities - I'm always lugging round a ton of stuff.

I keep thinking of 'upgrading' but I'm not sure if I would like the newer version.

Haha don't listen yo your mate, the difference is night and day and only in a good way... Soooo much more refined, and a totally different driving experience, I truly. can't see any negatives comparing the two, load space seems much the same but has the added bonus of sliding clipy rail things (Audi technical term). The spec is obviously dependant on what car you buy but even without the radar and Xenons I'd be chuffed with mine and certainly don't look back (not that I could go backwards in the last one)

^^ thanks for the response.

Sure I can see the improvements with the engine/transmission side of things. Perhaps it is the looks that I can't decide upon. The newer one looks nice but in my opinion the older C5 [widebody] looks more sporty.

I have to say the if yours is a step up from the old it must be a seriously well built car. I've pulled mine apart in various places and it is very well screwed together.
