Soo converstion today is about these fitbit things.
Apparently they can monitor you're sleep pattens and collegue pipes up that it's showing that she only sleeps 5hrs and show's us the log on her fitbit page.

so i asked what she now does with this information .... and had a blank stare in reply ..
So other than realising why she's always tired how else is it meant to help ?

It's quite interesting if you look at the times you wake up, e.g. if you're always waking at 2:00am you could try to work out what might be waking you up. Used to have an app for my phone that would record a snippet of sound whenever you were moving more than usual, mostly recorded me snoring!

Otherwise, it's pretty useless wink

It's just an additional feature, not really the main feature of the device. A bit like the Apple watch, it does some things no one really uses.

I use it. It integrates with an App I use to check my Heart Rate Variability. This is an indicator of how well recovered you are from training. The fitbit gives me a sleep efficiency score and I track that against my daily HRV and other subjective assessments of how I feel. I can then see if poor sleep is affecting my recovery.

Whether that actually translates to any tangible benefit long term I don't know but I like gadgets.

O/H has just got one, it told her she'd had 7hrs sleep and done so many steps in one night, she'd had about 3hrs sleep and gone nowhere.

Maybe she was wking you off in your sleep? Because excessive hand movements add steps (some recent painting added about 10,000 steps to mine). It shouldn't be adding steps in her sleep unless she's moving her arm around vigorously.

FitBit software is wildly inaccurate, mine registered 40k steps due to me leaving it next to my induction charger, this is along with a long line of other errors with it (its the software that's the problem), I have a few in-depth conversations with a couple of the software devs about the issues but in the end I sent it back.

As for the sleep thing, the rem cycle is 4-5 hours, surely that's whats being registered by the device.

What kind of painting do you do in your sleep, a self portrait or just a bit of glossing?
