Track Day Questions.
Discussion
I'm doing my very first track day at Donnington on Sunday and wanted to ask a few basic questions.
1) I keep the tyres at 24psi for road use. I believe that I should increase this for the track to stiffen the side walls (I guess). What do most of you Track goers run? Is this same for front/back etc
2) The Organisers instructions say that a towing eye(or similar) must be fitted. How do you tow a Tuscan? This must have been one of the first things TVR designed for the car
3) Anyone got away with CCC exhaust fitted for a 98 dB event. If it's borderline I might leave these on an take the originals to swap over if I don't pass as its only a few minutes work. Would this annoy the operators?
4) Are you normally allowed to mount a camcorder and video yourself? Anyone got a simple way of doing this without a proper fitting kit?
5) Insurance - I've been quoted £170 for arounf £17K of cover. Is it worth having?
6) Is it a good idea to take baby wipes incase I pap myself?
7) Are stonechips normally a big problem. Is it worth taping across the bonnet?
Anyone else taking their TVR? It would be great to have a chat during the day.
Cheers

I did my first Track day at Donington with Gold Track, thoroughly enjoyed, one of the best days of my life.
I read differing reports on whether to increase or decrease tyre pressure, so left mine as normal.
Chimaera's dont have towing eyes either, I let the organisers know and made sure I didnt go off the track, it wasnt a major issue.
Isnt Donington 105db? Speak to the organisers first, they'll let you know. I cant see a problem if you are going to change them, it'll be your track time being wasted.
Insurance recommended.
You'll need tape for your lights! But its not a scary circuit, the craner curves at full pelt are breath taking.
Enjoy!

2) The only time that mine has been towed (when the head gasket went), they fitted a strap to the front of the chassis. I've never been asked to fit a proper towing eye, and have never seen a Tuscan with one fitted, although I understand that they are available from your dealer.
3) No chance!

4) Check with the track day organisers about whether you're allowed to use vidoes, as some places may not allow it.
5) I never insure my car, but then I'm confident that I can drive in a way that I won't need it. It's your peace of mind though, so up to you... Donington is a large circuit, with plenty of run off at most corners, but it is certainly possible to hit something solid if you get things wrong.
6) You'll probably need them more to wipe the grin off your face!

7) You shouldn't have any stone chip problems at Donington, unless you take a trip into the gravel, or someone else does right in front of you.
Hope this helps!

Definately put another 3-4psi in them. I've seen first-hand what happens if you don't. Last track day I was on there was a Honda S2000 who didn't put extra pressure in. Now, whilst he was playing quite a lot to get the back end out and putting more stress on his tyres than an average track day user would, his tyres had white sidewalls at the end of the day! This was caused by the rubber stretching so much. Looked like those 1950's whitewall tyres!
Also running slightly more pressure keeps the temperature down to prevent blowouts I believe.
