does anyone know any good transport people, need to move something pop north......
I've used several transporters over the years, Car Storage Scotland are fantastic I would highly recommend them. They're based in Scotland but are down south most weeks. Definitley worth a call. JAR, based in Kent. I am painfully fussy and cherish my cars.
My brief to JAR was complex and involved a tricky pick up in Italy recently. There were severe restrictions on traffic flows over a weekend, a difficult one way system to navigate to the central hotel where we were staying, not to mention the Channel disruption.
JAR was on time, in the right location, their truck was immaculate, and my car returned exactly as promised. Outstanding service, professional, honest. Can't recommend them enough.

potentially moving a 456 from london to yorks.....have had a quote for £400.... but thought that sounded toppy? or am i being tight? :-)
I quote ALOT of transport work for my customers...That's a good price.Basically they are charging you a £1 a mile return, it's not a bad price, the longer the distance the better you can quote it.
I would say that there is going to be £100 worth of fuel and a drivers wages for a day, wouldnt say there's a lot left really to be honest taking in wear and tear etc.

I quote ALOT of transport work for my customers...That's a good price. If you want dedicated movements - You can expect to pay the subcontrctors mileage to get to the pick up location, the route to it's destination & the mileage back to their "base" - This will always be the most expensive route. Typically between £1.10 to £1.50 per mile depending on covered/uncovered etc.
Your Ferrari for example, we recently had a 430 sourced for a customer, collected from Perugia and brought to Surrey...CARS Europe for example are regularly running around the continent with 6 car transporters so us paying £1200-£1500+vat, along with the other 5 fitting most of the bill is how that can be done...Otherwise if we wanted to do that dedicated with a single covered trailer would be circa £2,000-£2,500+vat for a trusted entity to go out there and collect.
I always say to my customers...Sure, you can save £50-£150 on transport quotes by "shopping around"...But do you really want to save that extra few pounds when your Lamborghini is being loaded by someone you don't know, have never met, have no idea how they're doing the job & then when it goes wrong you'll have a job in getting ANY recourse on it...Or do you want it done right first time using trusted contacts that are tried and tested & we have some control (ie me present) rather than none

When it comes to transport, go by word of mouth...Do not penny pinch as you will typically & genuinely get what you pay for.

I've paid the price last year for getting mine back from Spain with a cheaper option, snapped wing mirror that nobody knows anything about, and 2 scuffed alloys.
As mentioned - On Time. Check out their website (and any F1 paddock).
Highly professional. They're always all over Europe so can usually do a return to the UK for less money (assuming your dates are flexible). The guy who took care of mine was an ambassador for the company, spent ages adjusting blocks to get the spoiler clear of the ramp.

When I sold a Fez a while back the buyer used Cars to pick it up from me and take it up to Scotland. That went well also.
If I needed to do it again I'd get Cars and On-Time to quote.

That sounds about as glowing a recommendation as a company could hope to get My brief to JAR was complex and involved a tricky pick up in Italy recently. Sounds like they proved themselves worthy with that complicated job.FalconWood said:
Call Dan Renshaw of Kentvale on 07714 770853. They moved a few cars from Midlamds to North West and a car to and from Italy. Not cheap but very good.
Mine is heading to the continent with them. Left this morning. Have to say it I felt a pinch in my stomach as they closed the back door... Will report back end of week is she's arrived nice and well. rosino said:

Well it's going to be a right mess when it arrives if it goes all the way there on its side
