Sorry about this, its a bit long winded:

I've just set up my own company, I'm a director.

I'd like an Isuzu Dmax....

whats the best way to finance something like this, just how tax efficient is having a truck, what costs can I claim back etc?

Cheers smile

I'm always a bit concerned when the first thing a new company director thinks of is what type of vehicle he can have.

I'm glad that's a concern, its obviously because I've thought about it and planned it for a while smile I'd like to turn profit to zero or near zero using the rules in place.

I've got a full time paye Job also, the plan is to pay my wife as a director or as an employee(circa £11k), myself nothing initially.

As long as it doesn't distract you from the real purpose of the company then it's not too bad - but from experience I have found that directors who obsess about their cars aren't often 100% focused on the actual business.

The problem with cars, vehicles, tax, Benefits in Kind etc is that the rules never stay still. What may have been good advice even a few weeks ago may not be so good later.

There are many, many , many threads here on PH on this topic. On average, I would say we get about two similar threads every week. I'd suggest you do a search and have a look at some of the other threads as they cover virtually all the permutations.

Hi, they're linked. Its not something I'm going to jump into. I need to speak to a decent accountant first(and find one to use!).

Regards smile

I have had one for about 5 years and just started thinking about replacing it.

From a start up business it has been brilliant, imo just enough mix between practical use and good techie/lifestyle.

From a finance point. I lease hired, about £1500 down and £300 a month ex vat. The biggest advantage from my point of view is it was classed as a commercial vehicle so company car tax was £600 a year.

Would I have another one, deffinately.

But my business has grown and I thing (need) a fast VW transporter in my life!!!!!

Not particularly relevant to this thread, but the Aberdeen area is awash with trucks mainly driven by one-man-band Oil contractors who work in an office. I look out my office window and I can see a dozen or so from here.
