well, I just cant understand this. following on from recommendations on threads late last year, I put in for a quote with L&V for my 1994 968cab, just for info. I was amazed by the price - around £450 (which is £100 less than Nowell and richards were charging me for my old 944). so i was almost looking forward to todays renewal notice. but when I plugged in the same numbers today I got £760. In disbelief i re-entered all the details and got £850. !!!!!
for someone living in the country with 7yrs protected no claims, no convictions or accidents and a secure garage, the word "flabberghasted" is inadequate to say the least.
on the same info norwich union online quoted me £400. guess where my moneys going.

2002 Porsche 996 C4S

I got my renewal notice, £1300 from LV, 75% no-claims, no change of circumstances. This was up from £850 last year with 70.5% no-claims.

Went with Direct Line got that for £830.

nope, got it from a robot I expect. I'll give them a ring tomorrow for a last chance, based on the previous rave reviews from other PHers - though I cant see a human dropping £300+ and anyway, the internet prices are usually discounted arent they?

I was quoted approx £760 last October for my 964 as a second car. Just done a quick quote now and got between £1350 and £1450 for fs sake! Now that's just guess they don't want porker money anymore and I'll be going elsewhere next October!

They sent me a quote in writing, only to renege when I called to pay. The constant threads on LV's inconsistency pretty much convinces me that my experience wasn't atypical.

Would you trust them to deal with a claim given that they seem to be constantly changing their mind??? Someone has posted to one of the threads saying their claim was handled perfectly, but you gotta ask yaself one question.... and when it comes to insurance, I never feel lucky...

I am with LV. When I had a claim they were excellent, can't say enough good things about them.

As for the insurance hikes, they have just changed their group 20 policy and now group 20 cars have been split into further 5 groups and they have increased there premiums to match the new groups.
Unfortunately I have little choice but to stay as my claim was under their protected no claims scheme and not many other insurance companies are willing to take the protected NCB on with my claim as yet

My L&V price on the 2002 C4S also had a suprising hike on renewal, £1k last year to £1.4k this year...still that just brought it into line with quotes from other companies (last years was significant;y cheaper than anywhere else)

Same here chaps, hike of £400 on my 996 Turbo, however can't really complain when my premium was £800 (the lowest by far) last year (75% NCB, 33yrs old)
I also claimed last year (no fault accident) which was handled superbly.
I am going to ring a few choice other insurance companies (as you do at renewal time) but chances are I will stay with LV

I was quoted £1450 for 996 targa 2002 by LV. Got £870 quote from Norwhwich Union. This is not competetive at all. I did speak to a human at LV, and told her that I have a cheaper quote, she said that is the best LV can offer.
I am surprised

Try Carole Nash - www.carolenash.com

Mine is under £400 fully comp for 3.2 carrera.
Its a slightly strange policy where you dont earn no claims - but you wouldnt lose any either!

Just changed mine too. Was with Diamond Ins. Brokers who quoted me £660 for limited mileage policy ... up £80 from previous year!! So I rang Heritage Ins. (from one of the Porsche mags) who quoted £440. Much better.....turns out that it's the same policy provider!!! I don't understand insurance...been with Diamond for 5 yrs...so much for loyalty to the customer. 993 C2 1994 ,no claims, 50+ yrs old.

Clearly they have aggressively priced themselves to get into the porsche market in the previous 12/18 months. Like everyone else with them I'll be interested to see what they have to offer at renewal time. The lesson to learn from this I would say is to always phone around for alternative quotes no matter how attractive you think your renewal quote is from any insurance company.

Just renewed my 89 Carrera for £280 with unlimited mileage. Been with them for years, made claims and never had a problem

Same thing on a 355. Their underwriters have changed tack apparently.

Just had some great quotes from Footman James, and if you have multiple cars, they can do a decent policy on all of them.

Always, always phone round at renewal time. Especially on expensive cars. Can make a huge difference.

Daz is 100% correct - they had a fairly public strategy last year of trying to attract Porsche owners, hence low premiums..this campaign has obviously ended and they are now looking to simply cash in on renewal fees from those who can't be arsed looking around - also looks like NU are trying to get themselves some of these punters back, so are competitive just now. Just goes to show you need to shop around every year when the renewal comes in as someone else is always cheaper.

Went on their site to get a quote last year, entered my car details and it came back telling me I had a 2001 911 cabriolet (which I don't)
Site asked if the details were correct, if not re-enter (which I did)
Site came back - 2001 911 Cabriolet

At this point I though, hold up these guys get their info from the DVLA, I assume. So I phoned the DVLA and after explaining the problem, asked them to confirm what my car was registered as. They confirmed the details on the DB as being what they should have been.

Back to L&V for another go... same B*ll***s

So no suprise they can't give an accurate quote when they seem to decide what your car actually is on a random basis!

Web sites - don't ya luv em?

well worth picking up the phone and shopping around.

carol Nash and A Manning came out the cheepest by a long shot. i opted for A manning as they didn't have as they seemed to have more benifits relivent to me included in the policy.
