Hello all,
Handed my CV in for a job recently. I want to call to check up on it/find out that there's no interview for me/you're fabulous and we're just firing one of the directors so we can give you his salary/etc.

When would you think is a good time? Let them sit on it a week? two weeks?

Always tricky this time of year - seems a lot of jobs go to agencies out and the client sods off on holiday for 2 weeks so hearing nothing isn't the end of the world...

Depends how recent 'recently' is though, Monday this week? A bit early. Monday last week, probably due a chase.

Can be useful to drop CV through and call very shortly after just to build some awareness/profile. You can also get a feel for timescales at that point or if the role was a fishing exercise...

I would chase them after seven days, just to "make sure they received it"....

How was this advertised and how long ago? If you applied on the day it was made available I'd give it two weeks or so. We're hiring at the moment and have been for five days - the people who chase us this early are just annoying me.

Not as much as one candidate who has applied no less than 6 times and rung us to chase as well.

Job had been up for a month or two. I called just under 2 weeks after applying. Was told more likely than not all those posts had been filled but the lady I spoke to would chase the guy up. Heard nothing so guess I'm still on the hunt. 😞

Certainly in my last workplace we almost blacklisted the follow up phone call people. We were a very busy small business with 100's of applicants per job if we wanted you we'd let you know.

The worst guy was possibly a member of PH, but managed to find my name then suggested I had told him to ring up to check on the progress of his application. His CV went in the bin straightaway as he clearly lied.
