Has anyone tried out laser/radar detectors rather than the fixed camera type like the road angel, are they any good ?

I don't think they are legal any more ? , and from past history they go off all the time for every thing, plus by the time they have a fix on you and your speed or lack of speed , I think it's too late

I remember them years ago, always making some sort of bleep, but wondering what they are like these days, loads of places sell them in the uk was unsure if illegal to use ?

I think the laser detector and radar detector are still legal to have in the UK , it was difficult to find that out , laser jammers can be more of a dodgy subject , it depends where you read things some times lol

A couple of years back the position was this, but it may have changed. I actually did some tests with them against all the devices in use about 10 years ago.

They used to be very good for laser, as they send out a signal that collides with the laser signal and so gave a reasonable warning. Bearing in mind laser works upto 999 metres. With radar and fixed cameras they weren't so good.
They used to be deemed illegal but as you don't actually do anything with/to the signal you intercept it was reinterpreted as that they were legal.
