Eh up - I'm a singer in a rock band! 
Been in a few bands on and off in the 90's - and each time I have been lucky enough that the bands have had a lot of gear that I could use.
Had a break, started again a few years ago. Bought my own Peavy mic stand - it was cheap, it's a round metal base stand, straight boom, with a screw adjustment halfway up. It's never been the sturdiest of stands, has always had an annoying habit of flexing in the middle at the joint, and then a couple of weeks ago the adjustment mechanism fell apart. So since then, I have had to gaffa tape it together in the middle - so it's basically scrap, and REALLY annoying because I can't collapse it and so I have to fold down the rear seats in my car to transport it.
Simple fact of the matter is, I want something really decent now. Budget - I dunno, 50 or 60 quid? I want a solid, unyielding stand, with preferably a quick-release lever adjustment halfway down, with a solid, round, heavy metal base (no pun intended...)
Had a look round some local music shops...nothing doing. Had a look round the net.....as expected, a bewildering array of stuff, don't know where to start.
Would be very grateful for some advice from other singers please....what are you using, is it good, and some recommendations if you would be so kind? Thanks!

I used to work for a PA company, all we used were Beyerdynamic stands.

Hercules stands are great. I use their guitar stands as well as a mic stand. It's convertible from straight to boom, as the boom retracts inside the main shaft, has a quick release joint on the main body, and just works.
Only downside from my point of view is that the retractable boom means I can't leave my pick holder on it but that won't be an issue if you're just singing.
Think it was about £40 on Amazon.

K&M stands. Or Beyer Dynamic stands (which are made by K&M but cost more;))
If it were me, I'd get a proper tripod stand, not a round-base.

I've several K&M and Beyer Dynamic stands. All are still going after years of use. Any of the cheaper stuff I've owned has gone in a skip.

That. Boom mics are only sensible if you are playing guitar too and need to swing it around a bit. A decent solid stand with a nice heavy base will be great, and makes an excellent stage prop. Gassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
