Been looking for a Cayman for a few months now, was originally looking at a 987.2 but then saw the 981 and fell in love with it.

Saw a lovely white 2.7 in a OPC Swindon and started conversation with them last week...picked it up yesterday.

Spec as follows: -
20" Carrera classics w. P-Zeros
Heated seats
Sports pipe
Sports design steering wheel
Front / Rear sensors
x14 way seat adjustment
Manual
PDC
Tracker
Bluetooth
DAB
Partial leather
Cruise control
PASM
Cargo nets

I must say the customer service from Dick Lovett (Swindon) was second-to-none. Attention to detail was impressive.

Pics to follow.

COngrats - sounds like a lovely car and a good spec too.

I deal with Dick Lovett in Cardiff from time to time and they are pretty good as well.

Nice car.

Please make sure that you get oil and filters changed before you collect. It will have had a very hard life so far.

Possibly, but at a push I'd take a 918 Spyder. wink

Edit: Though I have a feeling that they've stopped making them now.

Or maybe the 3.4 Cayman, but I agree that the 2.7 is definitely in with a shout. It is pleasantly slow in a world full of pointlessly fast cars.

Lovely car, mate. Pretty much a white version of my black one. I've covered nearly 50K in mine so far and enjoyed every minute!

I am all for cars that are usable rather than "pub bore fast", and the 2.7 is a lovely engine precisely because it likes (and needs) revs rather than having a thumping great mid-range.

I have a strong suspicion that the current MX-5 would be huge fun if Mazda had used a less torquey engine, for similar reasons. Sure, it is slow as hell even as it is, but it would be lovely if the engine was as rev-happy as the 2.7 in the 981.

Ultimately, the decision between the 3.4 and the 2.7 is quite a hard one. The 2.7 puts more smiles on your face but also, probably, more frowns (as it can be quite irritatingly slow when you aren't driving it hard).

Ah I see your referring to the 987 S rather than the 981 S.

I would even say that the 2.7 with lower gearing would be spot on. It is the insanely high gearing that leaves great big gaps that expose its lack of punch in normal driving. Gear it to a maximum speed of 130mph and it would feel plenty rapid, wouldn't it?

Yes, I do agree it would probably be better...but it is funny how you learn to drive it working with the gearing after many miles and different conditions. But then, I've always found the cars I've loved most are the ones that you take time to learn over many miles.

I will be interested to hear how 'gav_sw20' gets on with his over the coming weeks/months.

There's plenty on here about GTS and GT4...will be nice to hear about the 2.7.

Its a lovely engine. I have only driven a PDK one, but even that just felt right. It had 20" wheels too, which are silly. Until I realised that it rode beautifully and had lovely damping.

To be honest, I had a lot of fun in it. Its a balanced package.

I feel dirty.

I find the 981 to ride pretty much identically to the 987.2, to be honest. It's a little bit better resolved and slightly less crashy, but there's also less feedback from the chassis... Not sure I prefer it.

Bloody love the 2.7, though. A proper sports car engine.

The chap saying you can work with the gearbox obviously loves the car, and that's what it's all about...but the ratios are plain wrong. Nobody sane would choose those for driving on our roads.

I am already looking at how much it would cost to shorten the final drive on my next Porsche!

Haha! I did think that, but then I thought 'Better to know and deal with it'. Besides, an oil and filters change is extremely cheap compared to the purchase price (even if the OPC doesnt do it for free, which it should).

I am surprised about the amount of love for the 2.7, romanticising perhaps?

275bhp in a hot hatch or regular car is awesome, but when in a Cayman I find it quite dull.

Probably due to the gearing making it not feel like 275bhp and the fact that car is so competent you rarely need to brake, instead the engine is just droning on whilst struggling to accelerate over 100 in 3rd.

Just my comment to other posters, as opposed to stting on the OP smile
