BBC 6Music Prom

The thread about the Radio 1 Ibiza Prom reminded me to post a thread about the BBC 6Music Prom that was broadcast last week. It features US group A Winged Victory For The Sullen and German pianist/keyboard player Nils Frahm.
Now to be perfectly honest, I found AWVFTS a bit hard work to listen to, but at around 40 minutes Nils Frahm takes over and he is a revelation (to me at least as I'd not heard of him before). Just an incredible musician and amazing music.
Well worth a watch/listen on BBC iPlayer.

I've watched this twice already and I agree it's fantastic, did want to go to the actual gig but the family holiday scuppered my plans.

Only really became aware of both artists through the Jon Hopkins Late Night Tales connection and I'm turning into a big fan of both AWVFTS and Nils Frahm. Think you have to be in the right mood for AWVFTS but when you are I find their music absolutely excellent and so atmospheric.

Mary Anne Hobbs still scrubs up well as a bonus......

Atmos by awvfts is a stunning piece of composition. The other album, not so much much.

I was lucky enough to be there and it was fantastic. I wasn't familiar with AWVFTS before hand but they were great. I was gutted to have missed Nils Frahm at the Roundhouse in May so this was my way of correcting that.

The fact that it sold out very quickly despite being a 10:15pm performance in the middle of the week gives me some optimism that there will be more like this at next years Proms.

Beautifully shot and produced etc, and I'm sure it's very arty and clever but hasn't Craig Armstrong been doing similar with more passion for years?

Interesting, still and good to see something a bit different getting air time.
