Bi polar how do you get tested for this
Discussion
I'm assuming you think you may have this. Or maybe worried about someone close to you?
Anyway, I've been a mental health nurse for 10+ years (mid-way through a night shift as I sit typing this) but could not really tell you how you would be feeling or acting.
Somebody who has bipolar could come along and say they experience this or that, but everyone's different and you can write books (or certainly lenghty chapters) on the various symptoms of the illness.
There is no test to diagnose bipolar or any other mental illness that I can think of. More a case of being assessed by a suitably qualified medical professional over a period of time so that they can form an accurate impression of what they think may be going on.
If you are worried your first port of call should be your GP, who can set the ball rolling by referring on to such teams if they feel it necessary. Obviously in a crisis, A&E usually has a psych team/person on duty but most likely sign post you towards the same mental health services as the GP.

Second hand experience, there isnt a test, there's only a diagnosis. Behaviour of the person will probably tell you all you need to know
In my case, or really the case of the person who had the diagnosis, it was known well beforehand, as early as about 11, but they couldnt diagnose it til early 20s for some reason, I think to get the moody teenageritis ruled out first. And the prescription of fairly mind altering drugs second.
