Hi everyone,

I still require your help.

My S2 has its rubber bonnet trim missing (the one which is stuck on the bonnet parallel to the windscreen.
Where can I get this from? Any reference? What does it look like?

Once again, thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Geoffrey

Hi Phillpot,

Once again, thank you for your help. I'll order it.
Is your S fitted with inner arches to avoid water getting in the front headlamps?

Geoffrey

Yes.
Early S's didn't have them Geoffrey. I'm not sure when they were introduced by the factory. But as AutoAndy will confirm, they only add extra weight! wink

As Glen says, no front section to the early wheelarch. Not sure about the weight saving though, I seem to gather an awful lot of gravel in the bottom of the bonnet!

Removing the bonnet trim improves engine bay cooling, helps demists the windscreen and saves 300 gramssmile
I would only put it back if the car was left outside for a while.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your contributions.

I hadn't thought of that:

However, putting a bonnet rubber trim might absorb the bumps in the road and thus avoid the bonnet opening while driving.
What do you think?

Geoffrey

Well it might do to some extent but any amount of weight on the rubber section would just squash it flat.
It fills the gap more than supports the bonnet,
The bonnet should stay shut if the catches are in good shape and set up right.
I did find the open wide conversion caused the bonnet to never need adjusting and so the catches stay put.
They're all different though.

I have just checked mine and I had to laugh. It has got the rubber trim on, but I have a V8 bonnet and there must be a good inch of clearance between the rubber and the bodywork. So it is doing absolutely nothing!
That may well help with the cooling, which has been good on mine, and clearing the screen on bad days maybe? Bit of a big step fitting a V8 bonnet to a V6 to improve cooling though!

That does however seem to point to another S difference, the body at the scuttle on a V8 must be substantially different if the strip is there for a purpose OR the body is the same and there is lots of clearance on a V8 and TVR made a mistake moulding the mounting in!

Comments from owners?

I will fit rubber trim, I think it maintains the bonnet.

I agree about the gravel.
Mine was probably equipped with inner wheelarches, because there are holes in the wooden part of the bonnet.
Where could I buy a pair from?

Best regards,

Geoffrey

Hi Geoffrey. Can you do a few of us a favour and contact Trevor B at TET Mouldings 01253892342, they held a lot of ex TVR moulds and you never know they might have those two moulds. If so see how much they would charge and report back? I dont know the guy but an ex TVR employee gave me that lead and I have never had the chance to follow it up. Who knows, they may have other S moulds, in which case can you try to PM me first.

I've just sent the request to Trevor by email. I'll keep you posted.

Best regards,

Geoffrey

My rubber trim fell off last year and when I began to put it back on I realised there was no point as the gap was massive. I threw it away and polished up the area where it used to sit. The engine now runs slightly cooler in traffic than it did on the hottest days, not that we get that many. I too asked about the trim on the forum and was informed I had a V8 (or was it 4c?) bonnet on an S3c.

I also junked the fresh air hoses at about the same time - the steel coil wire had rotted at their lowest point in the engine bay where water had collected - and the canvas tubes had big holes in them in places.

Although I have the forward inner arches, I still have to clean out a few pounds of gravel from the bottom of the headlight area every so often - so maybe don't worry too much if you don't have them on yours.

Hi everyone,

Here is Trevor's reply:

I can make you a pair of inner wheel arches for your S2 at a cost of £80.00 plus £15.00 carriage no vat.

We maybe able to get a reduction if we get a group order.

Would any of you be interested in buying a pair of inner wheel arches for their S?

Geoffrey

Hi Christian,

Do you mean: rubber bonnet trim?
Is it genuine TVR parts?
Is there a TVR dealer in Brussels?

I'll be grateful if you could take one for me.

Best regards,

Geoffrey

P.S. I've had a problem with Windows 8 on my computer. I had to delete Windows 8 and download it again. As a result, I've lost all my emails. Could you please send me an email, so that I have your email address.
