And ARE LETHAL!!! at least 4 police in the US have died using them during training!!
ANYONE with a heart condition is more likely to be killed with one of these than with police use of a firearm (considering their "capability" with guns! no training, no safety, just HOORAAAH POW POW!!!)

They are not being "marketed" as non-lethal, they are less lethal.

They are only being issued to firearms officers so I don't see any problem with training or safety, in fact it gives them another option rather than just shooting somebody. I also find it hard to believe that a Taser is more dangerous than a gun under any circumstance.
There is a slight difference in the use in the States. There the fat little cowards regularly tazer old ladies. Here I believe only firearms police will be using them as an alternative to guns. Which of course it is, I guess they will be used to shoot men armed with shotguns oops no I mean chairlegs. Either way it might mean fewer deaths, which is good really save a few dodgy types with taser and kill a few innocent motorists with speed cameras..... Yeah I can see the logic well done Blair

and what if it was a relative of yours and the police had made a mistake; how would you feel then?
Of course, I'm forgetting that the firearms officers here don't make mistakes, do they?

The introduction of Tasers is probably because of the backlash the Police have received due to "questionable" use of firearms. ( chairleg victims etc ).
I dont have a problem with this. If you have broken the law in a manner serious enough to warrant the use of force by the BiB, then if you resist arrest, you must expect them to try to contain the situation.
The only variable that then remains is one of "indescriminate" use. Even then, surely it is better to get zapped by a Taser than shot with a 9mm?
You have to ask yourself a question:-
"If I were a BiB facing this type of situation, wouldnt you want a weapon that will stop the suspect in a manner least likely to cause permanant damage?" or would you prefer a pistol where there is a chance you will be up before a Police board, answering questions about exactly what you did etc. I know what I would want. This country is getting more and more like the U.S. where everyone wants to sue everyone.So the response by the Police in consultation with the gov. is to minimise the chance that the suspect will be killed so that there can be no backlash.

There is already a huge anti taser campaign and it is by no means certain that the weapon will be in use as a matter of routine. I personally think its a reasonable alternative to a firearm. Provided it remains that I am in favour of it. Unfortunately if its use becomes widespread and it eventually is issued to every cop on the beat as standard then it will cause death and it will cost a fortune in compensation because it will be abused. This countries compensation culture is actually getting more like the US was 20 years ago. We have far more attitude than they do presently. It is IMO a good thing as it will help to eliminate incompetance especialy in the public sector where it is rife.
