I'm sure you guys can advise. I am off to Spa towards the end of September and whilst out that neck of the woods it would be nice to run my car on a piece of unrestricted autobahn. Really stretch its legs so to speak. Your help is very much appreciated smile

South down the E42 from Spa, once you cross to Germany towards Trier right after the turn off that would start you towards the ring, the auobahn opens up as an unlimited section. To the north Aachen to Cologne has a section too but that's a good bit busier I think.

head south and set your sat nav for hockenheim. It takes half an hour ish to clear the border and get past the single carriageway section, but then it's all GOOOOOO!!!!!!!

E42 is the closest but only dual carriageway, the E40 Aachen to Cologne is 4 lanes for the section past the coal fired power station, always good for a max velocity run, hit 190 mph there before having to move over for my pal behind in his GT2 RS going for the magic double ton...

either way, NOT for the faint hearted, keep your wits about you and do a tyre inspection (pressures and condition) beforehand please.

Very much appreciated guys. So set the sat nav for Cologne when I leave Spa and hope for dry roads. Just one other daft question. Can anyone tell me what the unrestricted autobahn sign looks like or is the E40 all unrestricted

Unrestricted:

No, the E40 is *not* all unrestricted, signs will tell you the speed limit until you see the above.........

The drive from spa to the ''ring is fantastic via the e40 > 410. Worth a trip there to eat dinner at pistenklause.

Then take the a1 back for unrestricted autobahn when it's less busy.

Driving heaven
