5ltr Cylinder CC

I am in the process of having a new engine built and trying to get the C/R correct. Does anyone know the cc of standard 5ltr cylinder heads.

Early pre serp 14 bolt heads are 36cc. Later 10 bolt serp heads are 28cc.

I`m assuming TVR used both with the early pre serp and then the serp. What they did with the later 10 bolt heads i dont know. Maybe the later serps run a higher CR. I know theres not too much material to mess around with / remove from the combustion chambers.

Best way is to measure them Baz, it's not difficult and that way you know exactly Mine are later 28cc heads but the actuall cc is nearer 27 as they have been skimmed a couple of times. Unless you've had the car from new you will not know if this has been done.

Assumption is the mother of all FU's

TVR skimmed the pre-serp 14 bolt heads as they used composite gaskets before LR introduced them. 14/10 bolt heads in TVR land have other foibles but as far as the CR is concerned the differences are negligible.

99% of CR comes from block/crank/piston... any measurable differences in heads are more than likely manufacturing tolerance & subsequent maintenance.

TBH the way I've seen some valves lapped/ground to death I'd guess thats made more difference to the head cc than anything they did in Coventry
