I bought one of these last year as my temporary summer top for Euro touring as the extra luggage capacity & convenience seemed like a good idea.http://www.cambria-cirrus.com/
The thing is I've not used the original hard targa panel since.
It's proved way better than I could have ever hoped for

As for price, once you've bought the targa panel, retrimmed it and then got it back the Surrey Roof works out cheaper.
I'm a fan. Other than doing a full folding roof conversion on Samy the Surrey Roof should have been a factory option - imho.

I Love the idea but think that's a big ask.
ETA: I've just has a closer look at the pictures and it looks VERY well made. It appears to be lined. Is that the case. Are the struts anodised aluminium?
I'd like to see one of these in the flesh. Anyone got one in South Wales?

If I was being picky the header rail on the Surrey top could be a better fit at the corners where it meets the screen seal on my car, but I am being really picky here. I have a tiny gap at this point where you can see a pinprick of daylight in each corner, but there is absolutely no water ingress in these areas or anywhere else on the Surrey top for that matter.
If the curvature of the header rail followed that of the screen in the same way the factory hard top does it would be an absolutely perfect fit.
When I was looking into the split roof option Surface & Design told me there were three targa panel molds used by the factory, things either evolved or they used the best fitting top to each car, I'm not quite sure which.
Interestingly Surface & Design said they would only make the split panel for me if I brought the car to them as it needed to be fine tuned to each car, each car is slightly different apparently so they point blank refused to make a split roof and just post it to me.
Surface & Design have very high standards for the fit and finish of all their work, and nobody knows the cars like S&D because they the guys that made the bodies and painted them from new.
My guess is the guy that makes the Surrey top just uses a generic header rail so you might be lucky and it fits your car's screen perfectly or you may end up like me with two very tiny gaps that TBH really are no big deal at all.
The Surrey top is indeed a fantastic addition to any TVR, even in heavy sustained downpours it doesn't leak at all and the wind noise is barely any greater than the solid factory panel. So when you weigh it all up the practicality and convenience it gives is outstanding and honestly I haven't even considered going back to the hard panel once since I bought it which should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is.
Not cheap, not 100% perfect, but definitely very highly recommended

Looks a good idea. But not trying to cause trouble. Does it look safe? I would certainly not want my head any where near that in a crash or even missing a speed bump and going over it a bit fast? Looks like it would puncture your head really well?? Or am I missing something? Even seems to have a nice pointy bit facing down each end to make the job easier?

Yes, the bit you're missing is any practical experience of the product.I am 6"1' tall and have never ever come remotely close to touching the tensioning bars with my head, even accidentally leaping London's numerous unseen speed bumps my bonce remains completely intact
Ok so if you rolled the car the bars could conceivably strike you, but my guess is you'll be more focused on the grinding of your skull into the road surface and the imminent coming together of your body with large stationary objects like trees & walls than worried about a flappy fabric roof with a couple of ally bars on it.
Anyway I fully expect in such situations the Surrey top would simply make a pretty rapid bid for freedom.
Then there's the key point you've completely overlooked... A Chimaera most certainly isn't the choice of the safety conscious driver in the first place.
With all this in mind, may I politely suggest you might be better suited to the following vehicle.
