Guys.

I know most of us have used the 2 usual places to get our cars serviced, MF & WP, but for me they are quite a drive away.

So, would a good local garage be able to do a service on my car.

The Honda garage, 2 minutes away, have said they can do it, as they already look after another R8 in lymington.
Also, one of their tech's used to work on VXR8's.

You're thoughts please guys.

Have no problem with MF or WP, just don't want to drive there if I've no need to.

Regards.

Dave.

If it's a keeper, then the cars are pretty simple to service. I'm guessing one of the mechanics used to be with Picadors, from your location?

What mileage service is it? as long as the place your taking it to is trustworthy then use them, services are not normally much to do on these cars, if you need to keep a warranty up then you need to use a GM approved garage, I will need to for the Gen F but I serviced it myself last week just for piece of mind and will get it done again at 10k at picadors just for warranty

Thanks guys for replies, the garage is a franchised Honda dealer, so should be ok I would have thought.

No warranty on car, so no probs there.

Last service was the 50,000 at just under 50k, now car has only done 51,065 miles.

You dont have to use a GM Approved garage to keep warranty, Block Exemption Rule allows you to go to any garage aslong as they use original GM/OEM parts and they are VAT Registered then Warranty remains intact.

I do not use any as I do all my own work.

Just to clear up some block exemption myths.

1. You do not have to use a vat registered garage, non vat registered garages can be used.
2. You do not have to use genuine parts, equivalent quality aftermarket parts can be used. After all manufactures do not make there own parts, only the body panels.

this applies only to vehicles under the warranty period ie standard 60k or 3 years.

If you have vauxhall life time warranty and given that this is an extra to the standard 3 years then they can dictate there own terms. Which says vat registered garage.

Like wise aftermarket warranties also stipulate vat registered garage.

Given that the op car is long out of warranty then you just need to find a garage that you trust.

There is nothing complex about our cars servicing wise, in fact they are very basic in the requirements compared to over complicated modern cars.

I use a local independent next to my office in Shirley Southampton. So far he has done a service, track rods and drop links and the power steering hose. Also lets me have a good look under the car when up on the ramp.
I just source the parts from MF and he has fitted them. The mechanic I use is Aston martin trained, there are often German V8 and Bentleys there as well asthe odd Rolls Royce and classic yank amongst the normal fiestas and vans for work. Always interesting to see what turns up.

Not a big fan of the local dealer who tried to sell me a throttle body that was not needed (£700) some 4000 miles ago. Heck their mechanic told me my car had a flat battery as he didn't even realise at the time it had a toad immobiliser fitted and you had to press the fob!. Hardly filled me with confidence. PM me if you want my garages name.

Spoke to picador last year for 50k service, a girl tried to rip me off for the spark plugs, some horrendous price she quoted-because they are special ones she said!!! so a bit reluctant to ring them!

In case they rip me off again. Or try to!

Regards.
