This will be hitting the market very soon.

Very well thought out and executed. I'm having trouble restraining my wallet

Its occupying a semi-pro section of that market. There are several products from other companies that are aimed at the commercial sector (pubs, restaurants etc.) that are three times that price, so in comparisson its pretty good.

I've always said that Squeezebox should have a wireless remote i.e. not IR.

I tried to use my Dell Axim to do a similar thing but it was just too sluggish updating the HTML interface of the Slimserver.

I bought a D-Link media lounge before Chrimbo, it works really well, plays most file formats, easy to use software and remote, allows me to stream video, music and piccies wirelessly, and fits in really well with my existing home hi-fi/cinema kit.

I'm sure I saw the site for the Sonos product about 9 months ago and it said it was going to be launched imminently then too...

Also gets around the issues of powerloss through long speaker cables. Hopefully shouldn't be long before other companies catch up and start making compatible speakers at lower prices/ better quality etc.

i am awaiting delivery of a palm t3 with wifi from the states. i am going to use palm vnc to hook into network etc and control my media server.

what did you use with the axim and why was it so slow???

thanks
jody

Squeezebox gives you (in addition to the IR remote) a HTML version of the interface that you can use from any browser on your network. It was just scrolling through the library on the Axim that was slow really. Probably to do with how much tag info it has to cache - which is a lot when you've got 25,000 songs in your library.

There's a cut-down "skin" for the web interface (less graphics, simpler layout) aimed at hand-helds. This was an improvement but then you loose a lot of the functionality of the interface.

Its actually pretty good, very useable, just not as immediate as the IR control.
