Basically I have a PCM 3.0 which keeps rebooting. I sent it to Cartronics who quoted me £1000+ to fix the motherboard and reprogram.
PCGB want about £2000 all in for a new fully working unit fitted.

Not an ideal situation....

If anyone has an idea how to repair these things I'd really appreciate it.

How often and when does it reboot? I tried a firmware update and ended up with a rebooting PCM but it was constantly rebooting 30s after power up. I fixed it by creating s firmware repair cd and re-flashing it.

If its intermittent and just happens at random times during normal operation its probably a hardware fault and for the price cartronics charge it may be cheaper to buy an entire working unit from ebay and get a code to enable it on your car.

Ditch it (but keep it for next owner) and buy Panasonic. Better everything and will look OE with 997 specific surround.

Many thank, I think the ebay route might be the best option.

Can the Dynavin and Panasonic replace a PCM 2.1 unit? Are they compatible with the MFSW?

Thanks moose - go any pics in a 997.1?

Does it add BT mic and an iPod connector you can put in console cubby, or do you have to plug it straight into the facia

May regret spending £800 on fitting a Mobridge

I've put head units into a Boxster 987 as well as a 997 (with and without Bose) and this seems absolutely perfect for the job.

For anyone that wants something streets ahead of the PCM 2.1, don't hesitate.

I had a Dynavin in an E46 M3, it was several generations older than the one pictured.
Hardware wise, it was bang on, absolutely OEM "appearance", integrated with CANBUS and steering wheel controls worked 100%, software was mixed.

Bluetooth:- rudimentary, but functional.
iPod:- v.poor interface ergonomics, and graphics, BUT it worked and it supported "resume" between drives.
MP3:- graphically poor, only supported two directory depths, BUT it worked and would play from any media, USB stick, MicroSD, CD and DVD (and you'd get a LOT on a DVD, and like the iPod I/f, completely supported "resume"
Radio:- average reception, quite good graphics, and considerable space given over to RDS messages.

Nav:- Superb (mine was Windows Mobile or CE, I can't quite remember) and I think they may have moved over to Android these days, but I had TomTom, Navigon, NDrive, iGo and iGo Primo, I think the picture above is showing Primo, I REALLY liked it, VERY customizable with a decent frame rate.

Each newer generation looked to hone the software further.
If I still had PCM 2, I would definitely look into one of these as the Mobridge/Dension things are not as good IMO.

Check out E46Fanatics.com for more info, they have an audio section with a LOT of Dynavin info.

Hi,

Thanks God to find your answer, I need some help form you. I have a PCM 3.1 which started to reboot every 10-15 sec displaying the porsche logo only. The reboot switches down the Nav HDD therefore there is an audible "sipn down" voice from the unit. I diagnosed the unit with Porsche service center and they were not able to flash it, I should replace it they told me (easy answer).

My question to you is how could you generate the firmware CD? What was the process to do the firmware update? I would like to replicate your process maybe I can make it work again.

Thank you in advance!

From my experience only in very rare cases Porsche PCM3.0 firmware upgrade from disk could solve this problem with rebooting of Porsche PCM3.0 and bring it back to life. Usually in very often cases after such attempts of bringing back to life Porsche PCM3.0 from the firmware upgrade disk the problematic PCM3.0 stucks on some percentage of firmware upgrade status bar and this procedure does not ends successfully. As a result - totally dead PCM3.0 unit which will never turns on again or such an error message appearing every time on the screen like I showed here in the attached picture below.
In any other cases please contact me to repair Porsche PCM3.0 with 3 year warranty.

But anyway you have a chance to try to bring your Porsche PCM3.0 back to life by firmware update.
