Hi All

I have just taken the plunge and ordered myself a Nikon D70 (with the 18-70 lens, as recommended by lots of PHers). Having been a hardened 35mm EOS man for years, it's quite a big step moving over to a Nikon.

Have to say, when I went to have a play with the D70 and the 300D in the shops, the difference in build quality was astounding.

Anyway, some quick questions:

I've ordered Photoshop Elements 3, will I be able to import RAW/NEF files directly or do I need Nikon/other third party software?

Do Nikon make a vertical grip for the camera - I've scoured numerous websites, but can't find anything...

I'd really like to set up my own website to host my pictures in an organised album-like way. I have no idea how to do this, so any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance y'all!

No - its biggest downfall, but perhaps the only one.

For all the official stuff the Nikon website is the place to go.

Someone on here recently posted a link to an aftermarket attempt.....now where is it....

The more complicated but more long term way would be:

Download this (free for 30 days I think): www.digitaldutch.com/arles/

then buy nuggs.co.uk (or similar) from these people: www.easily.co.uk (9.99 for 2 years)

Then upload the pages/photos you create to the webspace your ISP probably provides.

Then (via easily) point nuggs.co.uk to your webspace.

Hey presto.

I can talk you through it if that's the way you want to go.

I can provide the domain name and hosting for you, as I do for many PH'ers. Ask JonRB, MickBarett, vixpy1 to name but a few.

e-mail sales@ip1hosting.net for a special PH'er rate

Guys, thanks so much for your very prompt responses.

GetCarter - just looked at your website, looks absolutely fantastic and some cracking photos on there. What package(s) do you use to create the various pages?

Muncher - thanks very much. As soon as I get the camera and have a decent number of photos, I'll be in touch!

Beano500 - thanks old boy, will you be at VW at the end of Feb (and leaving your boot closed beforehand )?

Nikon Capture will do it but costs about £100 I think. Or if you prefer to stay with Adobe, I think you need at least 7 and preferably CS, with Adobe NEF plugin.

www.pbase.com seems a good place to host pix, and it saves you having to make your own site.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your new toy. Just make sure the read the manual, 'cos there are plenty of bits you'll miss otherwise!

Elements 3 can read NEF files, so you shouldn't have any problems with that. When you connect the CF card, it launches an organiser which then downloads your pictures to the hard disk for you.

Grief, when I was a law student I drove a Suzuki Swift (an oxymoron if ever there was one!)
