Tried these BBQ pulled pork flavoured scratchings... not bad at all, kinda sweet & smoky tasting. I love pork scratchings!

Have you checked the calorie count for those?

People should carry those instead of Kendal Mint Cake and Chocolate when going up mountains. There's enough food in that bag to keep a team of people working for a fortnight.

Well, not really, but more that your daily caloric intake anyway...

For me, Pork Scratchings are the perfect pub snack.

These, especially the ones in the brown bag, are the king of Pork Scratchings. The black bag is Pork Crackling and is softer if you like that sort of thing. They also make the fennel Pork Scratchings for Wahaca.

Erm... not actually true. The bag is 45g, and it's 610 calories per 100g. So that makes the bag about 275 calories - and to put that in perspective, a Tesco chicken salad sandwich is 434 calories.

don't much like the scratchings that are 'puffed', like quavers kind of. I like the grotty ones you can see nostrils and hair in.

...which is largely what they are biggrin

I love 'em with a pint of proper cider (i.e. definitely not the stuff you have on ice, yuk).

hehe

yum

Yes. When they're good they're sublime. But when you get a bag with too little seasoning and too much lard they turn my stomach.

A taco place near me makes their own Chicharon, basically Mexican style pork scratchings. They're awesome.

I love them. Out in the sticks, the locals make them as one huge slab, some the size of the table. Braking bits off and dipping them in hot sauce and sipping a cold beer. Pretty bloody good.

Funnily, I prefer those puffed ones. Dunno why. I like my teeth, maybe?

I love em too after decades of hating pork (bizarre, but that's getting old for you I guess).

I'd say my favourite 'posh' ones are Mr Trotters or Awfully Posh pork crackling.

Mr Porky is OK, and the 39p\bag 'No Nonsense' pork scratchings from Home Bargains have a very strong 'piggy' flavour.

I make my own when I BBQ.

Super easy to make out of Pork Belly but if you try, do it outside unless you want your house to smell of fried pig for a couple of weeks silly

Openshaws also make black pudding flavour pork scratchings which are absolutely incredible, my favourite so far.

You won't be disappointed, they really do taste like black pudding. Post back with your thoughts once you've tried them.

I'd like to have a go at making them but my missus doesn't eat pork belly so I've never got round to it.

A Butchers/Bakers local to me used to make Pork 'Scraps', which I think were the waste/by-product of rendering pork fat. Think of regular scratchings but smaller, less hair and probably less tasteful and yet more unhealthy - they were however more addictive. Anyone had similar?
