you are right to say the 110 hp HDI Xara won't be a sports car , but it will be brisk , I'm quite enjoying the same engine in my 307 , it's smooth for a 4 banger derv. with "laid back" elastic performance . no D is much good at 0-60 because the limited rev range causes the need for wide ratios and long gears , but once rolling you surf along on the torque , which is surprisingly satisfying .

To get a truely sporting Derv. you need throttle response , none I've tried achieve this ( 3.0 BM maybee? not tried it ), but it don't meen you can't enjoy it

Was this the one that was tuned to 130bhp by sword automotive ????????

It used the ford 1.8 turdo diesel as the 2.3 was a very nasty and sluggish ex pug lump

I have - the standard model is a bit limp wristed, very poor below 3krpm, modded tho and it'll pull clean from 1500 thru to 5000, giving loads of flexibility. Agree on the 0-60, but who gives a poo about that in the real world?? Acceleration for overtaking is where its at. makes me grin a lot

Possibly cos a diesel doesn't have a throttle.

(Apologies Farmer after a crap day I couldn't resist being a smart arse. I feel better now).

Ouch , should have seen that one coming , for throttle read, "foot pedal on extreme right used to alter fuel metering

I went from a Chimaera to a diesel.

Havn't regretted it at all. 350 lb/ft of torque keeps me happy enough, if the car didn't weigh 1800kg it would be seriously quick.

Or on my car the potentiometer connected to the right hand pedal that modulates the signal to the ECU.

A snappy deisel would be nice but it might spoil the elastic band feeling that can be pretty addictive.

I'm not sure if sporty IS the right word - in fact the new big common rail turbo diesels are almost the opposite to sporty, if there is a word for that.

They're cars for us people who want to drive fast but are too lazy to keep revving the nuts off a CTR.

I also went from a Chimaera to a Skoda diesel.
0 - 60 by the time I get to work, real world torque very useable and it starts every time. Alas still missing that unreliable piece of plastic (Chimp)
