if anybody has seen my thread " I've been attacked with a cleaver" long story short, my tendons were severed along with the end of the bone at the elbow.

I'm feeling a bit better now but feeling pretty sore and a bit depressed.
the cast has been removed so i can start to move my arm hopefully. the thing is there is no strength to pull a door handle or even flush the toilet. the most i can flex right now is about 10 degrees before it starts hurting pretty bad.

whet I'm really worried about is before the accident i was doing 20kg arm curls . not everyday but 4 days a week at five sets of ten before my bath/shower something that i actually enjoyed

will my tendons ever be strong enough again to pull something like that again. i know right now its impossible and its a long road to recovery. but having cast on for two weeks i was really surprised at the amount of muscle wastage as it was quite noticeable.
it will always be on my mind the tendon is only strapped back on but i would really like to go back to were i was before so will my tendon ever heal itself?

sorry for lack of capital letters. pretty hard one handed

If your tendon was severed and sown together again you should get the strength back.

I had my tendon severed in my little finger around 25 years ago. It is as strong as the other little finger and has been for a long time. You will need to have physiotherapy to get near or full movement again but strength shouldn't be a problem.

I train my tendons more than muscles these days, and apparently tendons are much harder to strengthen..... but on the plus side they don't weaken anywhere near as quick as muscles do with inactivity.

I read your other thread..... Good luck.

Thanks for that .
Puts my mind at rest a bit. Depressing when I can't even flush the toilet with this hand.

Many years ago one of our young lads had his arm dragged through a circular saw. The bone was severed between elbow and shoulder, only held on by his tricep muscles.
Within a year he had good movement and five years later it was pretty much 100% movement, dexterity and strength.
It's amazing what can be done and what your body can do.

Best of luck.

I picked up another injury 2 years ago (armwrestling) and the weight of a cup killed my bicep. I'd seriously damaged by bicep tendon (only evident when it still hurt over a year later) but I didn't go to the doctor for fear of being told not to train at all.

I trained anything that didn't cause me pain, not doing certain exercises or using little weight. I've fully recovered but I struggle to do hammer curls... once my easiest exercise.

If and when you can lift weights, do low weight and high reps. Blood flow is very important for tendon and ligament recovery, and blood flow around them is normally poor compared to muscles. High reps will aid recovery faster than resting completely and doing nothing for a year.

Thanks for the input . All advice will be taken aboard
Hopefully will make a full recovery . Sitting around right now doing nothing is doing my head in as the staples have been taken out the wound is not healing as good as I would have liked.
Dangerous pastime is looking at cheap fiesta st's when I can't even get my car out of the garage.
