Hi All,

Will be getting SKy installed in approximately 4 weeks time.

Would it be possible to have the the multi-room install in the outbuilding/office?

This is located 15m from the main house but I guess it would take 60m of wire to go around the house across the fence, to the office.

Do you think I could ask the SKY man nicely, make him a coffee and offer an incentive?

Right.... Here goes.

Chateaux Troubleatmill has the Sky dish mounted on the South West side of the building.

The living room ( and kitchen ) is on the North East side of the building.

Cue a bloody long run of cable along the entire length of the building ( it is long...) and then down from 2 storeys to ground level.... along another 30 ft to get to where the Sky boxes are.

It is a lot of cable..

No problems here.

What you need to do is protect the cable ( especially if it is going underground ).

But 15 metres.... No problems. I'm way way way way beyond that.

Hope it helps.

Oh.. and you don't need the phone line anymore.

Just a network connection.

Get a Devolo Powerline adapter ( or other brand ) - to ensure both Sky boxes can connect to the Internet.

Also be aware that Sky also flog a box that only streams live TV - No ability to record or download ( sod that ).

Edit: Worst case.... From Ebay/Amazon - Get another Sky dish and LNB ( 2 inputs) and mount on your home office.
Bung the bloke some notes and avoid the run of cables.

Im not sure what Sky's tollerance is with signal levels for the STB to work, 60m is a long run and will lose around 1.6db per 10m. As for the cable its lszh so no need to be buried as its designed to be outside.

So I could get another dish on the outbuilding/offcie and then just plug the box in, with my card and hey presto?

IceBoy

I thought the multi-room had to run from one dish?

Technically yes, but in reality it the number of boxes per property, they have no way of knowing what does she you are using.

They can only check a shared phone line or internet connection.
