Evening, Anyone here got this? Or have any experience of it?

A close relative is booked in for a bone marrow aspiration shortly.

I just Googled it, and read about it on Wiki, although its different it seems a similar illness (a type of cancer of the white blood cells) and treatment regime to Lymphoma may want to check out my thread on 'I think I have Lymphoma'

The only thing I know about the lumber puncture (I haven't needed 1 so far) is friend who had 1 to diagnose MS found it 'challenging' but a woman who had 1 at the same time as him went shopping at Bluewater straight after.
Not sure if that says more about my friend needing to toughen up, or the fact that you can't keep a woman away from shopping.

My Brother In Law was diagnosed with the same last year. Went through the full treatment and is now in full remission.

I have got AML, so not the same, but have met a number of patients in haematology with CLL. All patients are different, with age etc important, so stay away from any stats for now.

What is useful is the website www.leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk , this has useful patient and family booklets plus some helpful personal experiences, I sometimes blog there, am currently in hospital doing chemo ahead of a stem cell transplant in Oct.

A tip on the biopsy, for my first one I had no pain relief, it was very painful. Advise them to take the gas and it is then almost pleasurable!

If you need any other help, for example on talking to family or children about it if feel free to PM me for ideas...

Thought best to provide an update...

No BM aspiration, they just diagnosed on blood tests. Lymphocyte (I think) levels have been increasing over the last 5yrs.

Quarterly checkups and being careful of lumps and bumps, cold etc are the plan.

I assume it just means regular appointments and blood tests for observation at a haematology outpatients?

Good news.

My dad had a rare form of Leukaemia known as Hairy Cell. Diagnosis was a scary thing but it turned out to be a better diagnosis than the original anaemia that he was diagnosed with, as there was no treatment for that. 11 years in remission now - hope that things turn out the same for you

Thats about it, yup. They're showing some symptoms (hence the docs appt), but nothing tooooo major,
