Alcantara Wheel
Discussion
I used Royal Steering Wheels. They did a great job and the wheel feels superb now
They even added a little custom center stripe at the top for me (at my request)

Not the best pic but all I have to hand, I can take a couple tonight if you want some more.
I wrote a post in the FAQ about removing the steering wheel, its a doddle but take your time.

I know it's not an AM but Royal Steering Wheels did my Civic steering wheel in black alcantara too. They do a great job and the material feels superb.
You have to take into account that the wear rate is not as good as leather, I've done about 10k in my car and it's starting to go a bit smoother than I'd like. Great work for a great price though.

I have been told that Alcantara refreshes really well by being rubbed over with a baby wipe! Not tried this yet but apparently cleans out the oils from your hands and brings the pile up again. Has anyone done this and found it useful?
Ken - I think Alcantara both looks great on the wheel (and seat inserts) and adds to wheel grip and feel. Isn't it used on a lot of race cars. Anyway, all down to personal taste which is presumably why both versions are available.
David - Loving your interior. Is that Lords Red?

I use microfibre cloth and water with lemon juice added .. just make sure you allow the alcantara time to dry.Ken - I think Alcantara both looks great on the wheel (and seat inserts) and adds to wheel grip and feel. Your wheel looks a bit chunkier which is nice. Is that the case? How long did it take them?

Another vote for Royal - they did my DB9 earlier this year, they did a great job and I also had the 'vertical reference strip' at the top.
It took him about 10 days BUT he fitted a replacement wheel while it was being done so I could still use my car.
He also wrapped over the original leather wheel which was great as its now a little thicker, and as I've got 'man hands' as the wife calls them (don't know what she would expect me to have - hoofs???) it just feels better,
Highly recommended

I think it was £140, I took it off and posted it to them (I think the courier I used was around the £12 mark). Their comms are superb as well.DAVIDOXE said:

It does feel a little chunkier which I really like, I genuinely couldn't be happier with how the wheel feels. In terms of time, I think it was 1 or 2 weeks.... my car was off road over Christmas and in my folks garage in quite a lot of pieces so I can't be too sure. Others have said they'll fit you a temporary spare if you do indeed need the car
To those doubting alca vs leather, I'd say it has a bit more grip and somehow feels a lot nicer (subjective of course).

The wheel on my car is going a little flat whilst there are numerous companies that can refurb/recover does anyone have first hand experience or recommendations please?
There are some good tips on youtube - damp cloth and gentle agitation with a toothbrush seem to be a good place to start.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
