My car was recently written off and the car was recovered to a garage.

Said garage kept the car and charged storage costs whilst waiting for confirmation the car was written off.

Car was written off and I purchased the salvage back. The car was kept at the garage and I found a buyer for the salvage.

I agreed with the salvage yard a price and that I could reclaim some parts and another price if I couldn't reclaim them.
Upon trying to get the parts (exhausts, I required a ramp) I couldn't remove them whilst the car was at the garage so left them on. The car remained at the original garage and I informed the salvage the car was complete.

The salvage was collected on Thursday and today I was informed the exhausts and side repeaters were missing on collection.

As a result the salvage yard wants to pay me less (understandable) and the garage are denying liability?

Who is liable? Garage for the parts being stolen which I can't prove? Recovery of the salvage because they didn't check?

As it stands I'll end up out of pocket to the tune of about £500 and it's the principle of parts being stolen whilst not in my possession.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

A confusing post the way you e written it!

I think what you're saying is car was at a local garage following the accident and you agreed to buy car from insurance co and sell it to a salvage company? And you agreed a sale price for either the whole car, or the whole car less some parts that you would try to keep. You tried to take them off at the garage where stored, couldn't, so left them on, then buyer (salvage yard) collected car and said such parts were missing.

If that is all about right, you need to find out who took the parts off, and when. Then it is them responsible and it is potentially theft.
Go to local garage and ask about it. Your insurance co any may be a port of call, if they paid you out net of the salvage and some of it is missing, they may owe you some money!

Bailment issue. The garage have a duty - but as you point out don't you have an evidential issue proving when the items were removed?
