996 C4S undervalued?

So the X50 Turbo I was looking at sold yesterday so back to the drawing board. During a directors meeting we were discussing the 996 C4S (the company sponsors a Porsche and many are big fans of the marque).

The feeling was that as Turbo prices are getting silly the C4S will be the next ones to start rising.

What are your thoughts?

Turbo prices have risen rapidly as of late and are peaking I think. This in turn makes C4S prices more attractive.

So in that respect there could be a possible increase in demand and therefore price.

All totally subjective of course.

C4S prices have already risen with the turbo tracking roughly 30% below. Are you expecting the gap to close on the turbo values? I personally can't see that happening

I really want a nice Porsche because I want to have a fantastic car to drive at the weekend. However I also want something that won't lose me a shed full of money - been there and done that before.

I would suggest the C4s been a safe place to have your hard earned. If you look at previous turbo bodied 911's they've been a premium over the vanilla Carreras and as the turbo has the prices will rise

I placed a deposit on my first Porsche yesterday. For the first time ever I bought with heart and not head. Depreciation didn`t even come into it. You have to pay to play and what ever it loses it loses.

C4S's look lovely, but really I don't know why you'd choose one over a decent C2 given the wider body and 4wd system just add extra bloat and potentially detract from the driving experience. Plus it still has that engine meaning it will never be as desirable as a Turbo.

History has told us that eventually it will be the more basic non-limited run 911's that will be the most desirable, but quite frankly the market is presently fked so prices have been somewhat skewed by those buying/selling the cars for the wrong reasons... But then again I could be way off in my view as they do look very pretty. Personally I'd still take a nice C2 with the right oily bits though.

This isn't a great example though as you can buy these from anywhere between say £15-25k.........and in a few years worst case is what? £7.5-10k.........it's hardly like you will lose your shirt here.

I've been watching the 996 4s prices for a while now. The cars are being advertised at high prices, but these cars just aren't selling. There are a few for sale that were priced at 20k, that hadn't sold for months, but due to other cars being advertised for more, the dealers have added another 2k on the asking price. Does this actually mean prices are really rising, or just people are getting greedy and trying to push the prices up?
With the end of summer fast approaching, I can see prices coming back to a more realistic level. IMHO anyway

There's a lot of people on various forums who've bought above £20k, sometimes close to £25k.
Maybe the ones which aren't selling are the ticking time bombs??

This is happening on all 911's not just the C4s
I remember a certain bright blue 930 advertised at 39k about 2 yrs ago and didn't sell it then went up to 50ish it's now 70k and still hasn't sold. A lot of so called traders chancing their arm

The 996 C4S is a great looking car (as a coupe or cab).

Are they worth much more than a narrow bodied 996? To those who put looks over performance Yes, to those who want to drive a manual 996 C2 coupe is probably the pick of the non-turbo/GT 996 range.

I don't think that the 996 c4s is undervalued. I do think most other 911 models are overvalued in the current market.

996 C4S is a superb choice, I regularly see s a Lapis blue one round Southend area, and it looks great. I looked at these before going for the 996 Turbo, and just felt for me it was a touch slower than i wanted. Prices were quite strong even then, 3 years ago nearly. All the talk of prices is getting very boring, these are to be bought, driven and enjoyed. The way I see it if i lost any money in my ownership i count that as my ownership experience cost. SO if i had it for 5 years and loose 10k, then i lost 2k a year....so what! I have driven a 996 turbo for 5 years! well worth it. Time to get things in perspective!

Values aside, the 996 C4S looks right and sounds good too. IMHO (subjectively) it is aesthetically, head and shoulders above the 996 C2 and the slightly blander 997 C4S. Doesn't look quite as good as a turbo and is not as outright fast, but the NA power delivery is possibly more useable - it does pretty much 70% of what a turbo does.
