What is the opinion of the revised front end of the S on page 43 of the latest issue of Sprint?

My bonnet has to come off as it as three cracks which need to be repaired (previous owner had driven the car with broken hindges) I was thinking of adding fogs into the front next to round Indicators where the existing indicators are now. I was looking at Hella FF50's but have not looked for indicators yet. I'm also looking at Honda ESi door mirrors as replacements as they door mount are have the correct angle.

I might have to try a mock up first to see what it might look like. But as there seems to be no such thing as a standard 'S' can you really go wrong? Has anyone seen any horror stories

Actually quite like the idea of cleaing up the front a little, if I was in for a front end respray would seriously consider it never really liked the rubber insert bits myself. I would also attempt a little flair in front of the front wheels too, whilst at it I would also fill in some of the frontal intakes, which on teh V8S/S3-4 bonnets are too large IMHO.
Do a search on the red 'corvette' S it has been done before if you want to see what it looks like in the paint.

It does get very hot under the bonnet, would filling in part of the front intakes not cause it to overheat.

Yeah, if only there was some way to let all the hot air out the top, wouldn't that improve the cooling enourmously?

Yes, Harry. That is a nice conversion.
Here you go......

I'm considering a new S3c / S4 bonnet with rear facing hump (hole) on mine prior to the respray and fitting the driving lights etc, mainly to reduce the underbonnet temperatures.

To be honest I much prefer the look of the less "shark nosed" models with the driving lights and more rounded bottom edge.

These pictures are the excact conversion i was gonna do before i resprayed, round rear lights look awesome. i chickened out because i had never seen any done before and thought it might be too much of a personal choice. But then again, i suppose thats what its all about

I suppose Peter stage 2 of your cooling mods once the pump is delivering more power will be to remove the rest of the bonnet then .

Seriously the thinking behind it is once its moving plenty of air gets in, compare the front intake to say the griff.
Not going to just block things up, might experiment with carved blocks of polystrene(sp?) first.
Although V8S's have the grunt they do top out quicker than the equiv griff-aera which must be down to something.

There is a company Tony who make a rear light conversion to round tail lights for the escort but the TVR is a little narrower than the escort so it would have to be cut and shut and then painted etc but by the time you've bought it and modded it and painted it you may as well cut out the rear panel on the car and fibreglass in the recesses to acccept the new lights and it should look better as it will have no joins.

Again, I'll be doing this before my respray, I hate the escort lights...

Seriously (for a change), the area of the front intake is well over the top, you could get away with roughly a third of the radiator matrix areas if it was in a high pressure area. It's possible that a reduced air intake area would reduce drag.

(Doesn't work if you put the main air 'intake' under the car in a low pressure zone and then cover the front intake with e.g. a number plate, though.)

Been out for a quick fiddle in the garage and decided I gonna convert the lights. Cutting out the light panel and fibreglassing it flat is my option, nearly done it three months ago when I had the car stripped before spraying. I am sure Demon Tweeks do a round light cluster for about £40 a lense. Not sure about the number plate recess tho, maybe leave that but will know better when the lights are in.

I'm going to try and make it but I'm not sure that I should be exposing my 'needs TLC' to all that pristine shiny stuff that you all drive?

er yeah but no but......... we talk a good game but in the flesh there are a few wrinkles

the meets are about the fact you have a TVR not that it is the shiniest and it is a great place to ask questions and get ideas......it would be good to see you..... the S's have been thin on the ground recently
