Dead battery prevention

After going to the beach yesterday I came back to find a flat battery as I had forgotten to turn the lights off when parking.
I have been looking at a couple of options to stop this happening.
1 a battery saving device- once the battery drops to 10.7v it cuts power

2. A buzzer rigged to the headlight switch and door.

The buzzer seems simple depending on locating the correct wires. The priority start would be a good all round solution against other battery drain issues.
Anyone had anyone had any success with these or what have you used to overcome this issue (apart from remembering to switch off the lights)

One with remote and another you fit and forget.

If you set it for 11.9 volts will this be enough to restart the car?

If the battery itself is in good condition, then I would have thought so. But I have had knackered batteries show over 12 volts and fail to get anywhere near starting the car.http://www.batterybrain.co.uk

Another thought for you:
Make sure the interior light and boot light (if you have one) are permanently off, and wire the headlights through the ignition swithch. My Saab 9-5 and my Audi A8 both have this - you can leave the side lights only on, but if the light switch is left in the headlights on position, when you switch the igniotion off, all the lights go off. In the case of the Saab they go off immediately you switch the ignition off, while the Audi had a "follow you home" function that delayed the switch off by a number of seconds that you could set.
A mod I did a long time ago was:
Wire a buzzer from the dash lights switch to any green wire under the dash. All green wires are switched to earth when the ignition is off.
That way when you leave the lights on the buzzer will sound when you turn off the ignition.
If you want to park at night with the lights on just switch off the dash lights and the buzzer is also switched off.
