Mystery Two Fans
Discussion
Hi, Cerbera Speed Six heats up too quickly in traffic, have been told 104 is OK but car feels a bit grumpy, never mind the owner. Does cool down when I raise idle speed by pressing lightly on pedal. While investigating this, I have found there are two 12in fans behind radiator but also two smaller fans in front of (nose side) of and quite high up on radiator. Before I remove these and fit a Kenlowe behind rad, what on earth am I looking at? Whether OE or someone's later mod?? Sorry no pics as car is in for master cylinder change.
What does the ECU tell you the temp is?
I woudl check that the guages are not lying before spending on fans and things, if it is over heating there is something else wrong as they should not overheat in traffic if yours is your are masking the real issue by putting bigger fans on the car.
In my V8 Cerb I have sat in 38deg heat in traffic jams in France and she has behaved perfectly.

Assuming the Speed 6 cars have the same gauge as the AJP cars the temp gauges tend to over read by at least 5 degrees.
The hand book says start to worry over 105 degrees.
On most modern cars the temp gauge is just an indicator and does not show an actual temp, BMW for example, so most are not used to seeing the temp fluctuate but the reality is that of course the temp in modern cars fluctuates as it does in the Cerbera and just as quickly.
Don't worry about it and drive it.

Thank-you Gruffalo my friend. You are right. Seditas garage had set the Throttle Bodies (with relevant software) and I had asked them to look at the radiator / fans. But then the front of house person was off for two weeks so I didn't get to speak to him until today. True enough, he said the ECU was reading at least 8 degrees below the gauge, and the ECU exactly matched an infrared reading! So once the new master cylinder is plugged in, a pig of a job, off we go to enjoy what remains of the summer......................

That's really helpful context because the amount the gauge moves about on my Cerb is really different to most cars I've owned, and it does spook you a bit. Mine shows 105 quite regularly in traffic(which is really 100), but then cools back down to under 100 (so actually under 95) with the second fan on.On most modern cars the temp gauge is just an indicator and does not show an actual temp, BMW for example, so most are not used to seeing the temp fluctuate but the reality is that of course the temp in modern cars fluctuates as it does in the Cerbera and just as quickly.
