So this morning this link:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3206401/...
is posted in great delight all over my FB by those aquaintances who are evangelical about Veganism. For me everyone should just do what they want and shut up about it. But these guys are the type to ram home their beliefs on anyone who's listening (or not); i.e. you're a murderer for even thinking about having steak for tea.
Now my opinion is, these guys would look like they do almost regardless of diet. So long as its a clean diet and they train hard, wether its vegan, veggie or meat doesn't matter. Though I would think results might be quicker and easier to achieve (relatively) on animal proteins owing to how easy it is to access lots of good protein cheaply. Certainly though, with a bit more thought you can get the proteins you need from plants and other non-animal produce.
However, a cursory google reveals the man in the first picture, Mr Du Plessis only turned Vegan in 2014 and one assumes then that his body came about by following the usual path of using animal products. So a bit disingenuous to include him I think. He's certainly bigger than any of the other guys shown in the "article". Perhaps its because he's been able to maintain?
I have to say though, the other guys look good. They're not freak-beast huge, but they look strong and athletic and quite natural (though the tattooed lady could easily be a man with a woman's head Photoshop'd on).
What does PH think?

Never been a vegan and never will. Would wonder how they can get enough protein without loading up of too much fat.
From the article:
"'I love protein “ice-cream”,' she says, 'It's a simple blend of protein powder, almond milk and any berries or nut butters of choice.
'Another weird concoction that I love is two rice cakes crumbled into my protein shake left to soak overnight. It tastes like the bottom of an ice-cream cone when it gets soggy from the ice cream."
Seems like they a loading up on protein shakes. I assume these are special vegan shakes.

Yes I would think they are. Seems that way from the text. Not sure I'd like to live on protein shakes of any kind though, they don't leave you feeling all that great in my experience. Also don't read the comments... mostly nutters. Especially the first one:

Eating meat is a sin, the Bible states that SPECIFICALLY
I would like to add, the guys posting this on my wall are devout vegans. Constantly telling everyone they should be vegan or you're evil. However, they are not the pictures of health you see above. Most would class them as overweight.
The only other vegan guy I know is a lovely chap. Keeps his views to himself. But if you were to see him you might suggest going for a Maccy-D's or two. The word Emaciated comes to mind. Thats 3 vegans I know, none of whom are pictures of health so it can't be as straight forward as made out here. Granted, plenty of unhealthy and unhealthy looking bloaters on traditional diets so its no different.

normal protein shakes use soya, these vegan ones will be the same, soya is a vegan. As a vegetarian, my wife does struggle to get enough protein in her diet so will have a Quest bar for breakfast and we eat quorn in our evening meal. Neither are not vegan though, so that would make life very tricky.
Not sure I'm too surprised.
The human body is very adaptable and can survive, even thrive on differing diets. Eskimos used to consume 80% fat and many Chinese were 100% veggies and plenty in between.
The trouble starts when you add in manufactured food-like products; obesity, diabetes, dementia, hypertension, etc.

Possibly - does have a higher level of oestrogen ISTR!
no evidence of this, it is just conjecture.soya protein has high amounts of the amino acids arginine and glutamine.
Arginine is well known as a stimulant of anabolic hormones that stimulate muscle formation, while glutamine is considered essential during metabolic stress.
Soy in its current form is not particularly good for you: http://www.optimumchoices.com/Soy.htm

i forgot whey, but soya can be used but for some reason bodybuilders prefer whey.
Doesn't soya give you moobs (or something along those lines)?Pea protein however as almost as good an amino acid profile as Whey.
