Decibel level on a Griff 500 - any ideas

Any ideas on the idle decibel output of a Griff 500 with sleeved pipes (no wadding) and Taraka upgrade.

Maplins have got meters on sale at the moment for £30 if that helps....

Mine was sleeved at Austec (also pre-cats removed). It had a P404 cam upgrade (not hugely dissimilar to the Taraka package).

Steve is spot on - it bellowed at 109db when opened up, at 66% rpm.

It was just too loud for comfy motorway driving

The meters don't all read the same, and it varies a lot depending on conditions. If you're worried about track day noise, the only answer is to make sure it's well under, i.e. "quiet". I'd say you would have trouble on most tracks this year!

The car is going in for a respray in March and there is now ay we'll be doing any track days after that (over £4k for a respray) and we were hoping we could do the day this Sunday. The limit is 98db so we'll go along to watch instead.

Well Goodwood is around the 98 mark. Know this as we failed the noise test couple of years ago with the 99T, meter read 104/5, had to fit "troll trap" for the day. Still finding tiny bits of swarf in the rear paintwork.

Don't you know a friendly RAC Scrutineer who can test this for you?

It doesn't sound a lot different to the standard setup previously whilst inside the car with the roof off. I was worried about this but it is much quieter than I expected.
It's only noticeable at the rear end where it sounds like a WWII plane.

Got it measured at Donington.
Static readings:
98 at 4,000 rpm
Blipping up to 4,500 gives 110.
Given the drive by would increase this a sthere would be tyre and induction oise there is no way we would have met the limit. I'm glad as it was too wet anyway - I lost it on the way there!!! No damage though.
