Rambling's"inclusive strategy"...

The generally acceptable "Culture Show" (early evenings BBC2), last night contained the latest round of PC insanity.

Best sit down for this one.

Apparently, Rambling is racist and does nothing to encourage ethnics minorites to partake.

Some of the "opressed" that they interviewed had surely been beamed in from planet RightOn.

One guy said "I feel alienated when I walk in the country side, like the police or a farmer is going to point a gun at me and say 'what are you doing in the countryside, you're a terrorist threat'...."

I wish I was making it up.

Another one said "Well, you don't see any black faces on rambling magazine so its no wonder that asian and black people don't take part...."

I nearly threw my spag bol at the TV in disgust.

Get a grip.

Surely the biggest reason for the lack of minority ramblers is the fact that the vast majority live in cities/large towns rather than the countryside therefore living in the countryside is racist because it is not demographically diverse enough.

To be fair that's what most of the farmers I know would think and probably say. They have to safeguard their fertiliser stocks in case it's used for bomb making.

Of course the rest is complete rubbish, but it using the trash show formula to to get a reaction. People want to be on TV so badly that they will argue any point to fulfill that wish. Look at the Trisha genre. One of my wifes friends went on one of those shows (I don't think it was Tricia though) claiming this and that when everyone (except audience and host) knew she was lying.

I'm glad I'm not a member of an ethnic minority because being patronised and "spoken for" by these clowns would drive me up the wall.

Maybe the poor delicate little darlings who are so oppressed just don't generally enjoy rambling, I don't. I don't particularly enjoy Bollywood, it doesn't mean I think it's not "inclusive" enough because it's not translated into English and I don't imagine that I would be blamed for British Colonialism were I to go to a cinema and watch a film

Actually, the word colonialism was bandied about in that feature far too much.

I did wonder if I'd somehow slipped into an alternate reality.

The "pinnacle" of the piece was a black artist who had made some postcards showing black and asian people (staged) in the countryside, which apparently illustrated how unnatural they looked in those surroundings.

I guess she had to justify the grant somehow.

Now this I really do not get. Are these people really that stupid?

As far as I'm aware, rambling consists of taking a trip to Millets for a pair of stout boots, a rucksack, flask and dodgy cagoul and then driving into the countryside for a bit of a wander. Can someone please explain just how that could ever be seen as 'excluding' minorities?

Oh! I get it, so, it's my fault that these people have chosen to exclude themselves from the countryside and therefore they want a grant for some research in how they can be encouraged to go out and take a stroll.

Silly me, I just wonder about myself sometimes! Did you know that I'm responsible for the second world war aswell? The guilt is crippling.

Fing muppets, and I suppose there isn't any countryside in other coutries eh?

What next? Fat kids don't find exercise inclusive either?
