North Wales 2004 car crash deaths up 225% ??

Arrive Alive were recently praised - by Arrive Alive - for cutting deaths on North Wales roads. They claim they are targetting roads where most deaths are occurring and reducing them by up to 40%. Wonderful!
I was suspicious when I noticed they quoted no stats; just a general claim of accident reduction.
Today's Daily Post. Under the heading "Slow down and keep deaths off our roads".
Year 2003 deaths for accidents involving a car were 16. In 2004 this has changed a bit to 36.
Looks like a rise of 225% to me. Why have they excluded motorcyclists from the figures? Their fatals were high in 2003; surely they are not even higher in 2004.
What a silly and dangerous game these, "speed traps save lives" fools are playing.

I just had a really bizarre conversation with the reporter who wrote the article. (Hywel Trewyn)
He seems to think that policy should bear no responsibilty and that the police are simply doing their best.
Then he had to "go urgently".
Where do they find these people, and more importantly, why do they find these people?

Does it matter? The Scam partnerships convieniently ignore regression to the mean and take advantage of any statistical blips to praise themselves at any opportunity, so it's only fair that we do the same.

I heard yesterday that biker deaths in North Wales are down from 18 in 2003 to 10 in 2004 but it can't be due the camera's as 2004 had the same regime as 2003.
It has been suggested that bikers are staying away due to police harassment and also bad weather. Fewer bikers, fewer oppportunities to crash.
I recall bikers held a protest not too long ago as they were constanlty being pulled over for roadside safety checks which were taking up to half an hour to complete
So the total N Wales road deaths in 2004 appears to be 46.
This is one less than the figure for 1999 and 8 more than 1998. Anyone see the "Arrive Alive" effect?
