Hi,

I need some help.

I'm building a new (temporary) website for an event i want to see if i can get off the ground. I can't tell you what the event is yet as i havent got permission from PetrolTed to mention it.

The event is a day long UK based event. You enter with your car and team, and you have a challenge to complete. On your travels, you will see other teams doing the challenge also. I can't tell you too much without giving the game away at this stage.

However, the event isn't for supercars, or sports cars, its for people who enjoy driving their car, or who enjoy a challenge. Or both.

What i need are 5-6 large background pictures showing normal cars, ideally driving. And permission to use them on a website.

The pictures will be used as backgrounds, with text as layers on top of it. Not the greatest web design in the world, but acceptable until the main site gets delivered in a few months.

I could show you a version for our European trip, but I'd get told off (again) by PetrolTed if i mentioned it.

So if anyone can help, feel free to drop me a line.

Justin

Just watch for filesize - a picture 1200 x 1024 etc is going to take a time to download for dial-up folk. Maybe make it monochrome?

The '90s called, they want their web design back!

Seriously though, I wouldn't use images as backgrounds, it gets too distracting, and also theres the filesize issue already mentioned. Maybe try to inset the photos, similar to the PH articles, or like a magazine.

This is PH - normal cars not allowed!

Could you go out and take your own shots?

thas what i'm kinda planning tomorrow. the problem is this:

a) i have no artistic talent

;-)

having said that, i think tomorrow i'll put the hood down on the TF, stick the video camera mount on the rear lid, attach my old olypus digital compact on top. and then figure out a way of firing it when driving.

i'll try and pursuade the camera to give me a low shutter speed, if that fails i'll grab my fathers ixus. the idea being that you get some through the car shots as you drive along. you only need to do about 30 to get a decent blur.

my only possible concern is whether my old olypus will blur properly but as we have a plan B with the ixus thats not too constraining.

I knew I could get banned for impropper behavior on here, but because I own a Clio and an Audi A3?

As the kit car in my garage doesn't yet constitue a car, I guess it's back to the kitcar forum for me then.

Well, i took the car out this afternoon and tried to get the shots.

There is one practical problem - how do you fire the shutter when the camera is three or four feet away from you (or a passenger).

Overcame this by having a chase car. When i wanted a shot - i pulled over, someone jumped out of the chase car, hit the shutter which was on a 10 second timer. I then had 10 seconds to floor it.

I also used some friendly Americans who were walking down a road.

The second problem is that there is no way the compact (ixus IIs) would use a slow shutter speed.

I'll post the results if you are interested.

Q: does the 300D have a remote control to fire the shutter like my old EOS10.
