PS Elements importing.

Hi Guys
I'm having another go with PS Elements 11 as I'm hoping it'll give me more editing options than iPhoto.
I previously had a go and had some photos in it when today I did an import from iPhoto.
I now seem to have every photo that was already in Elements duplicated, about 2000 extra images. I've tried to go through them and taking out the duplicates but it's looking like it'll take me all evening.
If I were to select and delete every photo in Elements then do another import from iPhoto would that result in only one set of photos?
