I know this topic has been broadly covered a number of times but the threads are a little confusing. My first child is arriving on the 19th October and I need a baby seat which will fit the 997.

I took my 997(1) to Mamas and Pappas yesterday and they successfully fitted a Maxi Cosi Pebble and a Maxi Cosi Cabriofit. Leg room in the front is dramatically reduced but probably just about good enough for my wife who is 5'4 1/2".

I've seen mention of people removing the seat cushions. The seats were fitted yesterday without having done this. Do people remove the seats to gain a little extra leg room in the front?

Thanks for any advice.

Removing the seat backs does give you a couple of inches extra legroom, but as you say there is a huge reduction in front legroom with rear facing group 0 seats. I found that it was only really possible to take a front seat passenger for very short trips even with the seat backs removed as it was a bit too impractical. Maybe your partner is a bit more tolerant than mine, but I'd wait until your baby is 9 months and you can get them into the forward facing seats before embarking on any long trips as a family.

Good luck with it all though..

Please don't put them forward facing at 9 months old. In my view (and those of the professionals) the risks remain too high in any kind of accident. Keep them rear facing for as long as they will fit in the stage 1 seat, but certainly the first 15 months.

Fair enough, I understand what you're saying. But my original point still stands that you're better off waiting until you can fit everyone comfortably and safely into the car with a forward facing seat, rather than trying to squeeze the passenger in with a group 0 seat in the rear.

I've got a 6 year old, and 4 year old twins. When they were much younger, I struggled as I couldn't find a baby seat that I considered safe enough for them in either a 997, or 991. Until they are around a year old, they need to be in a rear facing baby seat, so this means it will only fit comfortably in the front of a 911. You'll find the fixings for the child seat are far more secure when you utilise the isofix mounts (assuming your car has them). You may also find that a removable baby seat (like the maxi cosi) is really useful when your child is alseep, and trying to remove this from the back of a 911 isnt going to be easy...!

You also need to make sure you can deactivate the passenger airbag if you fit a forward facing seat in the front...

It is much easier now that they are old enough, I find that in my 991, a Recaro Monza seatfix fits well in the front, and a Halfords essential seat is one of the few seats that fits comfortably in the rear.

Sorry cant offer more positive info for you...just my findings. You'll find pretty much any other car is easier to fit a baby seat than a 911...!

I used a maxi cosi cabrio fix and it was a pretty good fit but I changed over to forward facing at 15 months. I agree I don't think it's possible to remove a sleeping baby from the back of a 911, however I've managed this a couple of times since my daughter went forward facing as access I'd so much better.
